Daschle: I emphatically support a public plan
@ 12:41 pm by Michael O'Brien

A public healthcare option for consumers is an essential part of a final healthcare deal, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) said Friday.

Daschle, rebutting earlier reports that he'd backed off support for the plan, which Republicans say is "government-run," told the Washington Post's Ezra Klein that compromises would be needed to get a deal.

"I have said emphatically I support a public plan," Dashcle said, adding that he has no idea where reports that he didn't support a public option came from.

"I have said emphatically I support a public plan," he added. "Any federal plan. For all the reasons that have been made for years. It's important for cost, for choice, for competition, for popularity. I strongly support it."

Daschle said that the legislation he'd introduced with two Republican former majority leaders would make necessary compromises to achieve that outcome.

"What I did say is that I'm willing to compromise on most things to bring the package across the line," he explained. "The plan we agreed to yesterday was that states could offer public plans with a federal fall back."

6. The earlier reports make it sound like media is trying to create a perception that is not true.
Sounds like at least some people are trying to frustrate or take the wind out of the work being done.

Glad he cleared up the wrong info being spread around.

8. FORCE HIM TO WALK IT BACK!!!
He floated the "no federal public option" trial balloon, got kicked in the nuts, now he's holding his crotch and shuffling back!

He needs to be kicked again just out of principle!

9. This is bullshit bait and switch
What DASSHOLE is talking about here is the worthless Conrad Co-ops. And those are designed to fail, because state run systems could not possibly compete with the corporations. It's all about the size of the pool, and I ain't talking about the cement pond (as Granny Clampett would say)
