What the hell?

Stewart looked terrible. Not one of his best confrontations by far.

1. Yeah, too soft.
Usually, when I think of a point he should make, he eventually does. But he seemed to let Huck lead him astray from good arguments, especially on IVF and frozen embryos.

Here's the thing about frozen embryos: Only one out of ten or twenty implantations is successful. The others die. So if they really are as valuable as grown human beings, implanting them would represent an unacceptable risk. Therefore, it would be better to just keep them frozen forever--at least that way you haven't "killed" them.

Obviously, this is an absurd conclusion. That is because a frozen embryo is NOT A HUMAN BEING.

3. that would make the would-be parents and the doctors complicit in homicide, right?
so, apply the Religious Reich's argument about life beginning at conception, and the idea of bringing charges for "murdering a fetus" that the Reich push ...

2. 10 to one huckabee will be the next pub nominee. he's so cute & likeable,
so seemingly hip & reasonable. he gets jon stewart, for gosh sakes!

here's the scenario: obama doesn't deliver on progressive change, recession drags on, sparks populist backlash from both right & left, mixed with racist tinge.

huckabee's candidacy has that aw-shucks reagan magic.

huckabee's presidency delivers final coup de grace to new deal & institutes hard-core police-type state with workhouses for indigents & unemployed youth, privatized police forces, etc.

cheered on by the middle classes as budget innovations....

shades of weimar.
