Most of us would PREFER to have a "health care" system INSTEAD of a "health profit system".

But then, you need to have legislators who value "care" of many over the "profit" of few.

This is a very basic discussion about core values and the ethos of a nation.

1. Unless you completely replace the health care delivery system with a non profit system it will
remain so.

How does a pharmaceutical company cover the costs of research and what is the incentive to do research if there is no profit in it?

What motive does a physician have to open a clinic if the costs are not covered including the salaries of the workers?

Basically the answer to those questions is that the cost is passed on to the tax payer and the research and the clinic are done and operated by government employees.

Right?

6. How do you get from "take away the obscene profit motive" to "gov't employees run everything"?
Your post says nothing about the insurance companies, who are the real culprit in all of this.

2. This is how we need to describe it to lawmakers
Maybe it'll do some good.

4. The system we have now isn't health care, it's the medical industry.
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 01:04 PM by Franzia
It isn't very healthy and there is precious little caring going on; and like all industries it is arranged to maximize profit at the expense of patient 'care'.

5. I think you would get an argument from RN's.
You have really insulted a whole lot of people who chose their profession out of the desire to do some good for people. I have never met an RN who would agree with you and I use to be a controller of a medical clinic. I myself was surprised by the motivation of the people who worked there.

7. Yup. A system to steal money from everyone all the time.
And even more when they get sick. Which eventually happens to almost all of us.

Let's see... we're paying taxes... no one is representing us... together that's called...
