1. You're so fortunate that he lived long enough to "finally" feel comfortable talking about his
experiences. My father went ashore on D-Day+1 (Utah Beach). He died at age 55 and never once talked about his experiences. I hope your Uncle is with his Brothers now. BTW, that was a beautiful tribute.

2. I'm sure he is with his Brothers.
One thing I had forgotten is that Shifty was my MIL's last surviving sibling. My mother, who is 77, has 7 siblings still alive.

4. That sucks. All those guys deserve our respect.

I mean, this was a REAL war. With real consequences if the good side didn't win.

It's unfortunate that time is going to erase all these great people and memories. The farther we get from that war, the closer we will get to repeating it.

Band of Brothers was the greatest war movie of all time. Makes Saving Private Ryan look like Animal House.

Just a different time, different people. I can't imagine going thru what they went thru.
