Guardian: South Africa - 25% of men admit to commiting rape..
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jun/17/south-africa-rape-survey

One in four men in South Africa have admitted to rape and many confess to attacking more than one victim, according to a study that exposes the country's endemic culture of sexual violence.

Three out of four rapists first attacked while still in their teens, the study found. One in 20 men said they had raped a woman or girl in the last year.

South Africa is notorious for having one of the highest levels of rape in the world. Only a fraction are reported, and only a fraction of those lead to a conviction.

...

Of those surveyed, 28% said they had raped a woman or girl, and 3% said they had raped a man or boy. Almost half who said they had carried out a rape admitted they had done so more than once, with 73% saying they had carried out their first assault before the age of 20.

5. From the ashes of apartheid.
They don't have homes, social settings to meet people.
They live in dirt-clogged streets.

6. From nature, from history

Until "civilized" society came along, most copulation, (animal or human) was not "mutually agreed to". Women (except for royalty) have not had many rights until fairly recently . Their "marriages" were bartered within families, they were indentured as servants, they were slaves, they were "property" of the men who took them as wives.

All but the upper-crusty, well-connected females were expected to labor in the fields & factories,. alongside men. Anyone who thinks they were not sexually "affronted" , is deluding themselves. Literature, going back a very long way, contains tales of chambermaids, working-class women, governesses, nannies, etc being "available" to the males of the families they worked for.

The rainbow of complexions in America (especially throughout the black community) bears witness to a lot of "mixing" going on. a slave, a minor female, a servant, etc cannot "consent" fully . Coercion like that is rape, even if a weapon is not held to their throats.

Nothing new under the sun..

7. I agree with you, SoCalDem
The measure of a society is how well it prevents its males from doing this shit.

8. i wonder how many of these raped their own wife
i know in many places a large number of people including women think it's ok to rape your wife. but then again these people might not think it's rape if it's their wife.
