A photo of Gaza - taken Feb. 1, 09 -I'm quite certain the view has not changed
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 08:57 AM by Mira
I have friends who, from Germany, gathered 15 professionals and went to Gaza to help children with post traumatic stress.

They were ejected by the Egyptians on their 3rd day, when everything was sealed.

They have desperately tried to find a way to get back in, to no avail.

This is a photo taken by one of them through the window of a store.
I have 834 more photos, and I know this is a wealth of sadness that should be seen.

It breaks my heart.
Thank you President Carter for shining a light on this horrible inhumanity to man at a time in history when the entire world should have long risen above solving conflict in violent ways, which has never worked, and never will.

3. K & R
Just found out about this thread. I can't believe it has languished like this, but then I guess the all-important bloviation about the Palin/Letterman feud had to preempt such trifling matters as this.

Thanks for posting this, Mira. This is real, this is important and this is urgent and heartbreaking.

Now, then. Did ya hear what Letterman said about.............

6. Thank you, it's the gentlest and sweetest acknowledgement, and the most appreciated.
Thank you for paying attention.
And there are still 800 plus photos I have the world will never see. I feel very weird about having them and not being able to do any good with them, especially because I think they are like a rare diamond.

I have a desolate sadness about what should never ever be happening there. The bottom line is that we must evolve with large strides. A time to incorporate what we could learn from not repeating mistakes of history, a time to gather and re-group, a time to stop destruction and work together.

That time has come, yeah verily, it has come.

The beauty for me to have found my virtual home in DU is that at least I don't ever have to worry about defending my basic structural belief system. I can rely on that part being shared.
It's a bit out of context, but I have wanted to say that for a while now.

7. Those pics should be posted here, 10 at a time
and seen widely. They are news, and I'm sure each is worth 1,000 words if not more.

9. I am willing - and ready - and able.
Not all of them warrant the publicity, or should. Many are photos of the participants in the endeavor, or local folk.
BUT
I'll happily make a thread of 10 photos from Palestine for as long as they hold up
every day
hoping it will all serve the greater good.
I will post them in GD
and make them a daily event,
and hope that there will be no disturbance to my objective.

I will post them with a pre-amble that no comment is necessary.
That I will be there with them til they run out, and that I hope they click on looking at them every day since nothing is required other than caring.

10. You might want to set up a Flikr account to display them to a wider set of viewers.
Maybe use an account nickname like Gaza-2009 to help random searchers find them, as well as setting tags. One advantage of Flikr is that it allows you to easily use the Creative Commons License to allow/encourage further use of the photos (prohibiting - or even allowing - commercial use is one of the options), while other galleries usually emphasize that that the photos are the property of the owner and not to be used by others, etc. (Rec'd, of course.)

13. Threads like this hit home.
Hard. I have memories of the Palestinian refugee camps that I can never shake.

Sometimes it's all too much to take without going numb.
