Fire David Letterman campaign takes root; protest planned over comment on Sarah Palin's daughter
By Olivia Smith
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

David Letterman admitted pangs of regret over jokes he made last week about Sarah Palin's daughter.

He may be regretting them a little more now.

A Web site called FireDavidLetterman.com is organizing a rally outside Letterman's show at the Ed Sullivan theater on Tuesday June 16 at 4:30 p.m.

And while Letterman has repeatedly reminded viewers his comments were jokes, the campaign's organizers seem dead serious about getting the late-night stalwart canned.

Sponsored by New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, along with an attorney and radio host John Ziegler, the site also provides contacts - including major advertisers and CBS bigwigs - to whom people can complain about what many felt was a tasteless and potentially harmful quip by the late night talk leader.

"Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman making demeaning and degrading comments about women," Kolb, a Republican from the Western New York state district of Canandaigua, wrote in a letter to CBS chief Les Moonves.

The accompanying Facebook group and an ancillary one have about 1,800 members to date.

Conclusion, I believed he was intimidated into apoligizing. Due to the recent shooting in DC and such from RW extremests. I wouldn't be surprised.

1. Firing David Letterman would signal that CBS would gladly bow to the...

7. Not to mention Ed Asner...
Remember back in 1982? A bunch of conservatives led by Charlton Heston attack Asner for his views on Reagan's policies in Central America, and presto!, CBS suddenly discovers Asner's highly-rated and critically-acclaimed Lou Grant is "past its prime," and cans it without warning to replace it with a cop series.

11. Remember the Reagans miniseries?
No? That's because CBS spiked it at the last minute.

They're doing this because they know that CBS is the cowardly broadcasting network.

38. Don't confuse the NYDN with the NY Post
Despite the stupid story, it's actually a decent paper. Tabloid size doesn't mean tabloid news. They have excellent political reporting. Liz Benjamin is a must read for state politics. The editorial section is ridiculous but the Daily News is not anything like the Post except in format.

24. Palin doesn't get it .. does she ?
This is the reason that Palin & her herd are in Alaska today rather than in Washington DC. They have no class, grace or vision.

Letterman made a serious mistake. But, last night he came with a real apology. Told us the situation that led to the error and personally addressed the Palin family for the error. If Palin had grace, she would have accepted the apology, accepted an invitation to go on the show and lecture him not to stray into off-limit topics. That's what Obama would do. Instead, we have Palin pouting endlessly displaying her lack of class to the entire world. If she believes that her cribs going forward would lead to extra votes, she is wrong. It will lead to decline in sympathy for her.

Keerist...the collective vapors are overpowering.

But I think they're going to rue the day they tried to intimidate Letterman. He's going to be merciless with his ridicule of Sarah - they got the quick hit in, but there are lots more rounds to go. Stay tuned!

He gets their blow up doll back to the top of the news cycle, and they reward Letterman by trying to fire him. That is just plain stupid. The pseudo airline hostess has more national coverage now than she has had in the past two months, and still they complain.

35. I've never been a Letterman fan - never thought he was that funny -
but this is stupid. The guy is a comedian, he's apologized for a bad joke, end of story. If they want him fired, I suggest Limbaugh also be fired for his "Barack the Magic Negro" episode, O'Reilly needs to go for the loofah incident, Beck for inciting violence and scores of Republican politicians who have said extremely offensive things . . . including Sarah Palin for accusing Obama of being pals with terrorists.

failin honestly believes he apologized when Letterman basically said he delivered the joke wrong and now these moron wanting Dave's head on a pike no longer have a flag to rally around, yet, still scream and yell.

man, this is easier than fish in a barrel.

these people are that stupid and they seem to revel in it.

40. Letterman will NOT be fired...
CBS isn't stupid. They know that Dave's target audiance aren't Palin supporters to begin with... and they realize that this has probably INCREASED his audiance and veiwership in a week where he desprately needed it too - because Conan just took over for Leno.

Moonves isn't an idiot.. he's not getting rid of Dave. But, if thinking so makes more people tune in.. then he doesn't have a problem with that either.

This isn't the first time Dave has pissed off someone either... it's part of his shtick..
