Remember this?

The DA has decided to let bygones be bygones. Until the next time the tightly wound supercop loses his shit, I guess...

1. I had seen this a couple of days ago.
First of all, the dashcam clearly shows the cop passing the ambulance by crossing the yellow line. So he was able to get around it.

Second, what kind of asshole yells about an AMBULANCE yielding to "an emergency vehicle"?

Third, if he was in such a ball-breaking hurry, why did he have time to pull these guys over and give them shit?

Finally, why did the driver stop? He should have continued to the hospital and let the cop get excited at the emergency room entrance.

3. The DA will likely see him again
A cop that sees emergency crews as enemies is in dire need of an intervention. They'll regret passing on this chance to rein him in.

15. The dash cam also shows that the ambulance had to stay in the lane to pass a car on the shoulder.
I'm still scratching my head over your second point on why the trooper thought it was outrageous that an AMBULANCE didn't get out of his way in a nanosecond AND that he felt it necessary to hold it on the side of the road while he disciplined the crew.

7. which is probably true, but irrelevant to the prosecutor's actions
which are in reference to whether there is ample PC to charge for a crime.

iow, it is entirely consistent to say he needs administrative punishment and same could be justified under his agency's use of force and internal affairs guidelines, and say that his behavior does not rise to the level of a criminal offense.

i'd be pretty frigging surprised if he is not disciplined.

also, fwiw, we have to remember he IS a concrete commando (state trooper) and thus not a real cop :)

(sarcastic obligatory putdown of state troopers, or as we refer to them "triple-A with a gun") :)

8. I'd settle for firing the guy
The guy certainly does not seem balanced enough to be a cop. I'd settle for the guy getting fired.

CNN was right on top of this story yesterday - one week after it was all over The Internets.

9. I agree
The cop should be fired. Grabbing someone by the neck is a sign of major aggression and he should not be a "civilian protector". nt

10. I use the demeanor of
cops like this to get out of traffic tickets all the time.

"yeah look at my lengthy driving record there mr.DA... It clearly shows I have dealt with and know the difference between good professional cops, and cops in desperate need of a vacation."

I get great plea bargains. or sometimes the case is dropped.

I have found places like Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Kansas, Wyoming... all breed Asshole troopers like this guy. (from Oklahoma)

Anyway, I'm not going to pretend that the south isn't rampant with racism. I do apologize to the PC police for stating the obvious though.

17. Officer was suffering from Police Meaney Syndrome.
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 10:34 AM by aikoaiko
What of freakin overly sensitive, power wielding douche bag.

The ambulance pulled over reasonably given the car on the shoulder.

He doesn't like being flipped off by the ambu driver, well who does. Sac up, officer. "Brothers of the Shield" and all that. Still the driver is an ass for giving the popo the finger when he was clearly responding to an emergency.

He doesn't handle the encounter well at all especially given that there was a patient in the ambu. That should have been his first question.

But once he attempts to arrest (and I didn't see unedited video of that part where the arrest sequence begins), the ambu chief needed to not resist. The "throttle" was a reasonable technique for controlling a resistant arrestee in my opinion. Give that the officer appears to be wrong in everything leading up to the arrest, its hard to see how the arrest was warranted in the first place. The devil is in the details of the video which is edited.

The officer definitely needs to be spanked hard.

27. Too many of these cops have a short fuse and demand there asses kissed
Clearly this cop was told that they had a patient they were transporting. I see cops every day break the law--speeding without there lights on or parking where they shouldn't without being on some kind of case--and because they wear a badge they think they can do it.
