Prosecutor resigns after Missouri attorney general seeks removal
JEFFERSON CITY | A southern Missouri prosecutor has resigned after the attorney general's office sought to remove her.
Attorney General Chris Koster said Monday that Dent County prosecutor Jessica Sparks has resigned from office. He said the attorney general's staff would handle the prosecutor's duties until the governor appoints a replacement.
Earlier this month, Koster asked a judge to remove Sparks after she faced accusations of not filing cases and involvement in domestic disturbances. That request was still pending.
Sparks could not immediately be reached for comment Monday. The Salem News reported that Sparks resigned Friday citing medical reasons.
Sparks,
a Republican, was first elected in 2006. Dent County has a population of about 15,000 and is south of Interstate 44 near Rolla.
