Poll question: What is your first reaction when a former Bushie says they've "seen the light"?
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 03:20 PM by Bicoastal
Consider this question in the broadest terms possible--from politicians and pundits in the news, down to your relatives and next door neighbors.

(Thus far, I've seen a huge difference of opinion on this issue here, which is what prompted me to do this poll.)

3. Anger, sadness, and hope.
Sometimes it takes desperate times to get people to snap out of their unwitting ignorance. Despite this, the very fact that they entered such a state angers me. My first reaction upon hearing Bush speak was, "Hmm . . . I'd like for my president to have a native language." Anyone who voted for him in 2000 just wasn't thinking properly!

6. Not on the list, but I think the correct reply is....
... what are you now willing to do to compensate the nation for the damage you caused?

8. Combination: Anger, cynicism and hope.
Angry since the guy didn't come to his senses sooner, cynical in that the Bush Administration went to great lengths to fill its ranks with snakes, so I'm not trustful. But hopeful - maybe we happened upon the next John Dean.

9. I equate them with men on the Titanic kicking old women
out of lifeboats and into the water so they can be saved. I'm a heartless bastard. They are just distancing themselves from bush for their own selfish sake. If they weren't selfish and ignorant bastards they would not have been onboard with his nonsense in the first place. The fucking lunatics (like me) on DU knew at least four years ago that he and his politics and his cronies were wrong and criminal. If it was incredibly transparent to us cretins, why not them?

25. yes. they didn't see before because they are self-serving and
prefer living in their little fantasy world than taking a look around them. Their late light bulb makes me very suspicious.

16. I don't care what the reason-we need more people to do the
'right' thing now and if they are willing to come over to the 'light' side (a la Hagel) then YAY! They will go back soon enough - they are 'scorpions' ( insert the fable thing here) after all and it's their nature.

Like Dowd, how could he think Bush would bring bipartisanship to this country?

22. the Dixie Chicks speak for me
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Ready_to_Make_Nice

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting

I'm through, with doubt,
There's nothing left for me to figure out,
I've paid a price, and i'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I know you said
Why can't you just get over it,
It turned my whole world around
and i kind of like it

I made by bed, and I sleep like a baby,
With no regrets and I don't mind saying,
It's a sad sad story
That a mother will teach her daughter
that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Saying that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is

23. Can't blame everyone who had no idea the country's NEWSMEDIA was COMPLICIT with Bush's agenda.
The media has the greatest influence over what people think in general, and they used that influence to get Bush in office in 2000 and to protect him through the 2004 and beyond till Katrina blew back at them and became an UNSPINNABLE event.

24. Generally cynical
So many were happy to be on Bush's side right after 911, and in the beginning of the war, when things were so well stage-managed. Now that the wheels have come off the cart, they "don't want to talk about politics".

On the flip side of that, I feel gratified to hear from a lot of folks who were against Bush back in the day (or at least not for him) that feel enabled to speak out more now.

Sometimes, though, with some people, I feel like I've witnessed a miracle, like a spontaneously reversing frontal lobotomy.

27. They're "fair weather" Americans, and they would fall for the same shit again
if it had a different package ...like Reagan, who was equally as guilty of corrupting our Democracy and our environment in favor of the corporations.

They need more education about HISTORY, and the predicament they're in of "following the herd", instead of critical/reality thinking.
