Twitter Users Shame CNN For Not Covering Iran Elections, Riots
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 05:58 AM by Are_grits_groceries
CYBERSPACE - Twitter users were posting “#CNNfail” on thousands of tweets Saturday night saying that their coverage of important news like the Iranian elections were downplayed by the cable network.

Here are some of those tweets:

clickmomukhamo: OMG! Major developments in Iran yet CNN isn’t breaking into Larry King who’s interviewing some bikers! #cnnfail

lifeonqueen: CNN is screwing the pooch on this one - top story on web is Six Flags bankruptcy not Iran. Way to miss history CNN #CNNfail

geoffeighinger: RT @Elektracutie They should quit the news and just do travel brochures. #cnnfail

ivanlasso: RT @dabloguiman: COVER IRAN NOW!!!! @CNN @CNNbrk @CNNWORLD #iranelection #CNNFAIL pls RT

I am so sick of the whole MSM coverage of anything. Since we haven't been able to move an inch without a story somewhere about Iran having nuclear weapons and Pres.Obama's mishandling of the situation, one would think that a story of riots in the streets of Tehran would be of some interest. (Mishandling is their characterization. Not mine.)

But nooooooooooo, we get stories of lockups in jails and reruns of Nancy Ghoul hunting every missing cute, white kid in the known universe.
They are worse than useless.

2. Iran is top story there now:
Ahmadinejad to hold victory rally amid protests

http://us.cnn.com/

Different picture, but same top story as the international edition: http://edition.cnn.com/?iref=intlglobal

The list of stories on the US CNN front page:
Latest News

* Rebels seize 9 foreigners in Yemen
* Boy not allowed to get life-saving transplant
* FCC gets 300,000 calls as analog TV disappears
* FBI: Museum suspect will live to face charges
* Six Flags filing for bankruptcy
* 11 killed in separate attacks in Pakistan
* Ticker: WH monitoring 'irregularities' in Iran
* Health care cost choking small businesses
* 2 U.S. contractors released from Iraqi custody
* Venezuela to help Nicaragua after U.S. rebuff
* Amanda Knox testifies police slapped her
* People: R&B star Usher files for divorce
* It's OK to be a 'bad' parent now Video T-shirt
* Bon Iver rocks Bonnaroo
* Cops: Tots played amid grandma's meth lab Video
* Parking space $300K; vehicle extra Video T-shirt
* 7 Civil War stories your teacher never told you
* iReport.com: Share a bonding moment with dad
* Student invents bottle made with paper Video
* CNN Wire: Tehran tense after opposition...

That Yemen story, for instance, hasn't been put up in LBN on DU yet. I'd say that CNN has a reasonable mix there.

6. My favorite "They should quit the news and just do travel brochures." BINGO

They won't interrupt their BORING lifestyle stories for anything. Are they getting paid? We need more regulations on what news is or ISN'T.

7. Cheap Corporate Media...They Have Nothing To Show...
Firstly, our media has been downsized and outsourced so much that there's only a skelton crew at work on the weekends...unless it's a major, major story, the network is all but shutdown.

Next, American networks have zero presence inside Iran and thus have to rely on second-hand coverage...you'd do a lot better watching BBC or Al Jezeerah to get a better handle on what's going on. Our networks have long relegated international coverage to budget cuts and the back shelf.

9. In case you didn't know..
... the American MSM is OVER in terms of any kind of fair, accurate or even-handed coverage of what is happening in the world.

Why anyone would continue watching this propaganda is beyond me. Don't encourage the bastards, turn it off.

10. not to defend the propagania or nothin but
honest question here..is it possible that part of the problem is that we have no diplomatic ties with Iran, thus no press access?

I'm just speculating here, but I would imagine having to rely on second hand accounts and foreign reports must be difficult. Difficult to verify and present comprehensively as they could do much more easily in a country our reporters have easy access to, I mean.

Again, just guessing here. Perhaps someone with more media experience might now how that works.

(how well would we be able to cover an uprising in North Korea, anyway? just sayin)

14. how well did CNN cover the USSR revolt? Extremely well. But then, that was with Ted Turner
in charge. Now we have Bush's fascist pals, the Dubai and Saudi royals controlling a large share of AOL/TimeWarner/CNN.....don't we?

13. Dubai and Saudi royals control CNN and have for YEARS - fascist agenda NEEDS Ahmadinejad in office
and Bush showed that clearly when Ahmadinejad first ran.

Kingdom Holdings is a major shareholder in AOL/TimeWarner/CNN.

Some of the same people who brought us BCCI now control our major newsmedia.
