3. that's because the supporters of the other guy (can't remember his name)
had been meeting and communicating via text message and the internet. They are trying to prevent an uprising or rioting after ahmadinijad is declared the winner. I doubt he won legally. There is going to be some angry people.

4. 63% to 34%?
Wow, that is fraud. I could have seen Ahmadinejad winning a squeaker. This is closer to what Milosevic did in the 2000 elections. One can only hope that the outcome will be similar, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

8. yeah, if Ahmadinejad REALLY had 63%, why would he be so nervous?
He learned much watching the yankee cowboy. Not gonna let the grassroots get together.

6. Yeah, taking away people's Internet and cell phones is really a great way to calm them down...
That's the sort of action that INSPIRES riots.

18. Well-planned riots are called insurrections
That's probably what they're trying to avoid, not that it'll help much.

13. I'm thinking they don't care as much about the riots as they do
the images of those riots being broadcast around the world.

Checking updates throughout the day it looks like their gov officials are trying to play catch up..they started by shutting off cell phones/texting but then noticed that images were going out via facebook and youtube..so they then shut those down. But it was not before those home made videos made their way around the world (as we have seen by links provided by DUers).
Then there were sporadic report from Iranian twitter entries (made from people's home computers) that electricity and landlines were being shut down...again, the twitter entries made it out before the gov shut those down.

One of the links I gave today that had someone twittering comments and video from Iran is now "unavailable"..."IE cannot open". You see the site in the background but the warning won't let you do anything with it.

14. Rachel reported on that last night
Text messaging and other forms of communcation had been cut off. She was supposed to interview somebody who was reporting live from Iran, but she couldn't interview him live, and he had to use a Sat phone to get any kind of message out.
