CBS Iraq Correspondent regarding McCain:"He's talking rubbish. And he should not get away with it. "

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2007/04/04/publiceye/entry2648776.shtml

<snip>

Brian Montopoli: It seems that some reporters, including yourself and CNN's Michael Ware, have really taken umbrage at John McCain's recent comments, essentially saying that there are a lot of neighborhoods where you can walk around relatively safely. Is it fair to say that that really sort of bothered reporters?

Allen Pizzey: Yes. It's disgraceful for a man seeking highest office, I think, to talk utter rubbish. And that is utter rubbish. It's electoral propaganda. It is simply not true. No one in his right mind who has been to Baghdad believes that story.

Now, McCain and some other senators were there on Sunday, and they claimed, "Oh, we walked around for a whole hour…and we drove in from the airport. Gosh, aren't we great, we drove in from the airport." Excuse me, Mr. McCain, you drove in in a large convoy of heavily armed vehicles. The last one had a sign on it saying "Keep back 100 yards. Deadly force authorized." Every single car that they approached or passed pulled over and stopped, because that's the way it is. When one of those security details goes by, every ordinary person gets the hell out of the way, in case they get shot.

If he did walk around that market, and I didn't see him do it, and he didn't announce he was going to do it, you can bet your life there were an awful lot of soldiers deployed to make sure that nobody came near that place. He's talking rubbish. And he should not get away with it.

He is a murder monkey. He's responsible for the escalation at the market chosen for his little propoganda tour.

8. Yes it is, but I'll take this diplomatically-worded portrayal
I wish we'd hear more of it from our so-called liberal media.

On the other hand, "Disgrace" is an absolutely perfect description of McCain's disgusting attempt to whitewash the horrors going on every day in Iraq's capital city.

14. NBC Nightly News reported on this last night
Add NBC to the list of organizations that chose to finally report the truth. During a report last night (not sure of the reporter), McCain's lie was revealed when the reporter mentioned that he was surrounded with hundreds of troops as several helicopters stood by flying overhead. My question is, why isn't his outright lie the LEAD story on the news?

9. Keith Olbermann called him on it
Had a segment dedicated to the security surrounging him on his little jaunt. What a disgusting wuss. To cap it all off, people were killed just for being in the same neighborhood after he left the area. He should be held accountable for the deaths he caused. I will cherish the day when that happens.

10. What the heck has happened to McCain?
Was he always evil? Have they replaced him with an evil clone? Is he acting this way specifically to make sure the republicans lose 2008?

Wasn't he once an okay guy? Have I fallen into another time stream?

I'm so confused.

13. McCain is a classic example of a man selling his soul to the devil for political gain.
I think that John McCain once upon a time may have had some decent instincts. He was an old fashioned conservative and that put him at odds with Bush and his neocons. He has supported some decent legislation i.e. campaign finance reform.

Over the past few years, however, he has embraced the Bush agenda and bowed and scraped to the same social conservatives he used to disdain. Well, these social conservatives may think the world is only 6000 years old but they know a phony when they see it. Bush, for his part, probably enjoys watching him twist and spin in the wind and laughs at the thought that the old fool thinks he got anything from him--either that or he has pictures of McCain naked with a billy goat.

It's a sad spectacle.

20. The McCain as a moderate maverick is a media-created image
he's been very conservative politically all along - he got his image as a maverick and moderate because he (gasp) disagreed with Bush on a few things.

27. Rubbish From the Get Go
Here's the rub on the rubbish. They will never admit it, but the Republican Party is in love with war. When there is no war, they lust for war. They long for those perfect moments when they can witness the "shock and awe" in hi-def. Then they hunger for the endless occupation.

Make no mistake. The Iraq War is EXACTLY on target for the Bush-Cheney Administration. Bush has recently flipped back into campaign mode because the Congress threatens his precious war.

Why do the Republicans love war? It brings them closer to their $God.

30. McCain must think it's ok to try to mislead the people in order to "support the mission"
I say try because nobody believes this pathetic stunt. But its intent says alot about what kind of President he would be. He's more worried about what he imagines will hurt the morale of the Armed Forces than he is with using them responsibly and judiciously. And he's willing to lie to the public despite his reputation for so-called "straight talk." He's more concerned about imaginary things that matter to him than he is about the real lives of our troops and Iraqi's.

How could anyone trust this guy to level with the American people when he clearly thinks it's ok to lie to the public about a war? Haven't we had enough of that already?

He's toast.

37. He said something else important too, about the JOB of a Journalist and a News Program!
Brian Montopoli just asked him about why he thinks none of the American "news" Media is covering the problem areas in Africa...

Brian Montopoli: Do you think that it's due, primarily, to lack of interest from news consumers? Or is it also an issue of news organizations not having a lot of people out there? Or both?

Allen Pizzey: I think it's a combination of both, although news organizations will tell you "Oh, people don't want to read about it, people don't want to see it on television." Well, how do you know that if they don't?

I think that part of our job as journalists, as news organizations, is to go out and say to people, "this is an important news story. This is something you should know about. This is something that cannot be ignored. This is something that affects you. We've gone and found it for you. Here it is." If you don't want to read it, don't want to look at it, OK fine. But we have a certain responsibility to go out and tell people about things that are happening.

You can't get away not spending money by saying, "Oh, well, people don't want to know about anyway." Well, they may not want to know because they don't know. So maybe we ought to tell them. And that's probably the biggest problem of all.

We don't have enough people there – news budgets have been crunched, and so you spend your money where it needs to go. I've just come from Baghdad, which is a great, sucking black hole for money as far as newspapers and television stations are concerned. So it is an excuse, because you have to cover Iraq. But I think that more effort could be and should be put into covering places like Africa. (more at link) <http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2007/04/04/publiceye/entry2648776.shtml>

He'd make a worse President than Bush...

Because of this alone, he's out of the race. Journalist will not let him get away with this stunt. This heavily armed walk through a "safe" neighborhood is going to haunt him.

Worst of all he's shown no remorse to the people suffering daily because of the ongoing violence.

40. The War Mongers Are Not Done With Their Plundering
But they are no longer able to use the flag waving patriotic fever of the events of 9-11-01. The price is too high. U.S. corporate greed is obscene and immoral and the bright shiny cheap objects we have been buying at the expense of the sweat and blood of others is not worth the price.

41. We won't have McCain to kick around for long.
His "walk in the market" killed his campaign just as dead as if he'd taken an M-16 to it. He could save himself a lot of trouble and just drop out now. McCain has zero chance of winning the Republican nomination.

But golly, which loser are they going to pick? Giuliani is a hopeless mess, and his ties to Kerik, his plans for third wife Judy to attend cabinet meetings, and the hatred of the NY firefighters for him are not going to help. No chance.

Well, what about "lifelong hunter" Mitt Romney? He said he'd been hunting all his life, then it turned out he'd been out twice, 35 years apart. Now he has said that he only likes shooring and killing small animals, something that should endear him to the Hannity brigade. (Maybe he likes "tearing the tops off them" too, like Karl Rove.) Last year he said he owns a gun, but it turns out he doesn't.

So the "top tier" on the crazy side consists of a warmongering wacko, a corrupt loser, and a pathological liar. Step up, Newt! Time to get another womanizer in there.
