Gingrich Clarifies 'Ghetto' Word Choice
By KASIE HUNT, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is mulling a presidential bid, said his "word choice was poor" when he equated bilingual education with "the language of living in a ghetto."

In a video statement read in Spanish, subtitled in English and posted on YouTube Wednesday, the Georgia Republican said he was not attacking the Spanish language.

"I made some comments that I recognize caused a bad feeling within the Latino community. My word choice was poor but my point was simply this: In the United States it is important to speak the English language well in order to advance and have success," he said.

Advocating intensive English-language education "is an expression of support for Latinos, not an attack on their language," Gingrich said. "I have never believed that Spanish is a language of people of low incomes, nor a language without beauty."<snip>

4. I have an idea for people like Newt and Liberman
Prepare a speech. Have statements with multiple choice. They could then tell the audience to select the ending of meaning of the statement as to what they want it to mean.....than way they can say

A- We support Iraq and the war
B- We don't support the Iraq War if you don't
C- We want the war to be funded
D- We don't want the war to be funded if you don't

You get the idea.....

5. Why would he retract a statement that would excite his base?
Those who would support gingrich are those that hate immigrants and hate gays and hate the true concept of A Land of The Free. Please newt run for president. I can see the bumper stickers now:

KKK FOR NEWT!

WHITE'S ONLY IN THE WHITE HOUSE

Conservatives are evil bastards and my hate is rational.

6. The psycho has been "courting" the Latinos...the repukes NEED their votes.
Just like they need the RW religious wacko votes. They can't win without those 2 groups. Newt screwed up BIG TIME with that hateful remark. I'm sure he was ordered to "clarify" his remarks.:eyes:

Presidential candidate bungles speech in Miami
BY BETH REINHARD
People chuckled when presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a Mormon raised in Michigan and elected in Massachusetts, bungled the names of Cuban-American politicians during a recent speech in Miami.
But when he mistakenly associated Fidel Castro's trademark speech-ending slogan -- Patria o muerte, venceremos! -- with a free Cuba, listeners didn't laugh. They winced.

Castro has closed his speeches with the phrase -- in English, ''Fatherland or death, we shall overcome'' -- for decades.
