"...this is a Christian nation." Supreme Court Justice Brewer - 1892
"These and many other matters which might be noticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic utterances that this is a Christian nation."

I just saw the thread title on a bumper sticker, only without the ellipsis ... of course. Anybody know anything about this case?

The fifth link down seems to have the honest info.

3. Throw in Justice Taney's enlightened views on race, just for good measure
African Americans were "beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far inferior that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect." Scott v. Sanford 1856.

6. ...the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..."
Attributed to George Washington.

From the Treaty of Tripoli:

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

8. Even if...
Even if this was a nation founded by Christians, the founding of the Nation specifically adopted the Separation of Church and State. They distrusted the mixture of the governing class using religion as a tool. Full circle today, we know have a tool who uses religion.

9. Did Christopher Columbus found the United States?
Did any of the Puritans or Pilgrims found the United States?

Last I knew... the United States of America was founded in 1776.
