Has anyone heard from Alex Rodriguez?
I mean, if Letterman was truly talking about a 14-year old, he called Alex Rodriguez a low-life child predator/statutory rapist in that joke. He and his agents, pr people, etc. should really be up in arms about that horrific smear job on his reputation. Strange, though, he let the joke pass - perhaps he isn't interested in the extra attention.

That said, I don't particularly like the idea of telling jokes about politicians' kids, even if there is some material there to work with. Therefore, I have decided I probably won't vote for Letterman in the next election. Sorry, Dave.

2. If politicians are going to parade their kids out for their own ambitions....
then they have to accept the consequences. As a mother, I'm sure Palin was horrified about the comment (especially considering that she believed it to be about the 14-year old). But after parading Bristol around as a responsibly knocked-up teenager... Sorry, Sarah- you've got to take the bad with the good. If your kids are off-limits, then keep them out of the limelight. Lots of celebrities and politicians are able to do it, so it's not impossible.

3. It's more than parading their kids around
the "kid" was actively going around campaigning for sexual abstinence programs. I see nothing wrong with bringing your kid on stage a few times in your political life and still claiming your kids are private people. It's another thing for your kid to actively go on tv and start politically advocating for policy and them turn around and claim to be a private person.

4. Indeed... They took it to a level above and beyond.
But personally- I think the kids should be left out of it. I'm not voting for someone based on their ability to make beautiful and/or morally-admirable offspring.

6. He wasn't talking about the 14-year-old and Alex 'Can't Keep It in His Pants' Rodriguez...
is often the butt of Letterman jokes. Usually with Madonna, but (obviously) with others.

I agree re politicians' kids and actually feel sorry for Bristol. Yukon Barbie, knowing her daughter was dating Levi for at least a year, should have had her on the Pill or another "reliable" form of birth control. Bristol starting out making sense (e.g., "abstinence doesn't work") but Palin quickly quashed that message. And this bullshit abstinence tour is sponsored by Candies. Yeah, I want my tween niece dressed and posing like this:

Perhaps Bristol will write a tell-all book one day (without her controlling mother's input) and get out from under Palin's thumb.
