Free day causes chaos at Six Flags
A free-admission promotion at Six Flags Over Georgia on Atlanta's west side snarled morning rush hour traffic and frustrated youngsters turned away when the park hit capacity by 6 a.m.

Cobb police say they were caught off guard by the traffic that eventually shut down I-20. Authorities asked motorists to stay off I-20 until at least 10 a.m.

"It wasn't planned for us to be out there," said Cassie Reece, a Cobb police spokeswoman. "We were out there because we were called."
Police closed off exit ramps to Six Flags after the park took in all the visitors it legally could.

"Six Flags is at capacity and can't let anybody else in," Reece said. "I don't know when that will change."

1. What a clusterphuck.
Police were caught off guard by the traffic? Isn't traffic in Atlanta insane on a good day - how could they not anticipate this? Way to go, Six Flags!

2. Altanta now tops the nation in people moving there.
The traffic is more dreadful than Los Angeles on a bad day.

6. The traffic even in the northern suburbs is also a nightmare.
I live in Woodstock just northwest of Atlanta and work in Marietta. Fortunately, I was able to have my work hours changed to 7 am. to 4 p.m. In the morning, I miss most of the traffic because I leave the house at 6 a.m. But at 4 p.m., it starts building up again.

3. How could the police have possibly not forseen the traffic?

5. Traffic? someone else's problem
...except when it involves traffic control outside one of the many area megachurches on Sunday or Wednesday, the Cobb County PD could care less about traffic control. Incompetent boobs.

7. yeah, I have noticed that police are very quick to stop traffic so the fundies
can cram out of their megachurch. We were in Dallas and had to wait about 20 minutes (no exaggeration) while the cops completely blocked off the road until a megachurch parking lot emptied.

4. This completely screwed up my morning commute
I live not too far away from 6 Flags over GA. When I left the house this morning at 6:45, all the surface streets in my neighborhood were screwed up, just chock full of people looking to avoid the debacle that was happening on the interstate. What a joke. Who was the knuckledragging, mouthbreathing moron at 6 flags that thought this would be a good idea?
