Idaho gun enthusiasts target Natl. Guard tanks
Sport shooters’ actions in state’s high desert lead to calls for wider gun ban

AP -Updated: 1 hour, 13 minutes ago

BOISE, Idaho - For years, ATV-riding, gun-toting sport shooters have flouted gun laws in part of Idaho’s high desert by taking pot shots at ground squirrels and other animals.

Now, officials say, they’re also setting their sights on National Guard tanks that train in the area.

Rifles and pistols have been banned in a 68,000-acre area of the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area since 1996.

But the federal Bureau of Land Management is considering expanding the gun-restricted area by 41,000 acres to try to limit shootings at Idaho Army National Guard troops who report slugs bouncing off their tanks on a regular basis.

18. If I remember correctly, us old tankers had a beehive time round...
...specifically for the M-60 series. It may have fallen out of use in the ammunition mix because we were more concerned with T-72/80s and BMP than troops (that's what the .50 cal and the 240 were for).

Besides, if I remember correctly from some cross-training, there is a direct fire engagement for the M-109. :-)

If an M-109 howitzer is getting into a direct fire engagement, things aren't going so well in the battle.

"Fiddler's Green" was also the name of the informal bar at the Ft. Sill Officer's club until the late 1990's.

The legend of Fiddler's Green is still on the wall at the Ft Sill O-club.

They are criminals.....Villafing gun owners is a big problem some of us have. Comments like that are proven to cost us dearly at election time.

Most of us, do own firearms..Many of us would be considered "enthusiasts"...DON'T YOU DARE compare us to criminals.

Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 07:46 PM by billbuckhead
Gun pimps keep trying to put the most dangerous weapons in the hands of the worst people and call it patriotism when in fact it's terrorism 101. The gun "enthusiasts" have made a cottage industry out of promoting Randy Weaver, David Koresh, David Duke, wacko milita groups, ad nauseum as victims. Go to a gun show and see for yourselves.

37. Current meaning, yes
Do a little research and you will see that "regulated" was used in a much different sense 250 years ago.

3. to adjust so as to ensure accuracy of operation: to regulate a watch.
4. to put in good order: to regulate the digestion.

So when do the waiting periods begin to buy a watch? They must be regulated.

The Founding Fathers could never have conceived of a medium like television, or the internet. Should only newspapers be protected by the 1st Amendment?

49. You can't...
Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 01:13 PM by dairydog91
...interpret the Bill of Rights with different techniques for each amendment. Are you saying the 1st Amendment evolves with time (Protecting new forms of media as they are developed), while the 2nd remains static and only protects the arms available at the time? That's not exactly a consistent view of the BOR.

44. It was the Roman meaning, the old English meaning and the meaning today
but magically it was different when it was applied to weapons in 1776. It seems like very meaning of words and reality changes when gun "enthusiasts" come to the defense of their killing machines and the big lie they tell about what the 2nd amendment means.

41. The BOR says nothing about....
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 09:41 PM by dairydog91
...guns inside well regulated militias. It states that citizen militias are important, and then enumerates the RKBA in order to ensure that citizens can form those militias. It's rather difficult to form a militia, trained or untrained, if private citizens can't own guns. Nowhere does the BOR state that "people" who have the RKBA must be in a government-organized militia.

34. it's the same thing as calling illegal poachers HUNTERS...
which irks me to no end. They AREN'T hunters, they law breaking criminals who kill animals either out of season or in other illegal ways, such as night hunting (spotlighting) and shooting from roads or vehicles.

These people ARE NOT HUNTERS, and do not reflect the values of true outdoorsmen (and women) and safe, ethical legal hunters. They are CRIMINALS...
