Anyone using Internet Explorer 8 yet?
I refused the installation for now, love to hear some reviews, if your computer survived it of course. MS updates scare me.

1. Is that the automatic update I got last night
when I went to put this desktop into "Standby" mode, I got the message about Windows needing to install stuff and then it would be shut down, which was exactly what happened.

So now I have IE 8?

I never use it, so I guess it doesn't matter to me ..........................

2. IE 7 was so suck. I don't dare.
FWIW, my kid downloaded the Firefox browser, and really likes it.

6. Why would ANYONE use IE ANYTHING?
It is an invitation for security violations.

Use Firefox.

All your bookmarks will transfer over and you can still go back to IE if you need to, but you won't. I was the same way. I hate learning new stuff but Firefox is just as easy as IE once I switched I never went back. Not to mention I have less than half the problems with spyware and popups.

13. Oh, it is terrible - you have to get used to things being fast and clean.
And then there are the horrible plug-ins of Firefox like the Ad-Blocker that keep the dancing moron ads off of your screen. You would also have to get used to your browsing experience not being interrupted by random freezes and crashes. And the lack of security holes might seem a bit disconcerting for a while. But after a brief transition period, I think you will find Firefox to be a refreshing change. You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

I have one site
that won't work with Firefox. Then I have to go to IE.

But, otherwise, there's no comparison. I cannot imagine why anyone would use IE...........................

21. Because there are some sites that only work with IE.
Microsoft's own update site for one. Back when I had Netflix, for a long while the online movie service would only work with IE, don't know if it still does. Then there are sites that may work, but don't work as well.

I'd rather not have anything to do with IE, but there are times when you need it.

Fuck it: Q*Bert just died from his stroke... that's a big stroke.

It keeps crashing and telling me I should be grateful that it recovered from the crash.

Random pages, no rhyme nor reason.

And it's a newly formatted PC for pity's sake!!! XP Pro... no shitsa.

F***ing macrobloat from Macroslop...

Don't install or bother with IE8. No frigging way should it be installed on a new PC and behave this badly. Hell, it shouldn't be this bad whatsoever.

See my other message, guess which computer I tested it on before reformatting... :D

Oh, Office 2007 SP2 fucks up the PDF converter...

but with a firewall, really good anti spyware and anti virus software, and I don't go to the kind of places that invite attack.

23. I installed it.
I was using the beta. I use IE only to access a couple of sites that are most compatible with it. My work site is the main one. Otherwise I use FireFox to surf 99.9% of the time. I haven't had any trouble at all. I also like the new Safari that just came out. Really fast and pretty slick.

24. I installed it last month.
I don't use IE regularly, and I stayed away from installing anything but the essential parts (though stuff always manages to sneak in), but so far it's fine.

There's a few new features like 'web slices'. You can monitor just a part of the web site that you want and get updates if anything changes. I don't have the feature turned on cause I don't care, but there you go. For more features go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/features/easier.aspx

In short, go ahead and install it if you use IE.
