The Difference Between freerepublic and DU
Here at DU, if a poster uses language advocating violence against someone they disagree with, the post is yanked, and the poster warned and eventually tombstoned.

FR's apparently only remove the posts once the poster has actually committed violence, and then only to cover their own asses.

free republic members "believe" it is a weapon (but they're not sure.)

12. But Freepers think of it as a club.
Who it's hitting and why, from their perspective, depends on the particular amendment and whether they like it or not.

5. If FR remove threats of violence BEFORE the fact, the entire web site would be:

But we do not tolerate racism or violence here. I've seen too many people get a frozen pizza delivery to think otherwise.

11. Lota comments like
"The murder of Tiller was wrong and tarnishes our image, BUT it's not like he didn't have it coming..."

The sexism is only slightly worse there.

28. I got kicked off because I sorta corrected one of their posts. The
post said something or other about Bush being mad about (whatever) and I agreed that he was indeed mad, but that the poster probably meant angry.

15. Watch out for concern trolls
I've seen at least 2 of them in the past half-hour, few post counts, but urging us to tone down the rhetoric against FreeRepublic and "right wingers." One pointed out that freepers think DUers participate in hate speech too, as when we defend Gay Rights. Since when is it hateful to defend Gay Rights? This country needs to realize (and I think the people in America are coming to the realization) that the absolute DANGEROUS hate is coming from the Right. Even when we posted about Bush/Cheney, we didn't threaten them or wish them physical harm.

20. Do you have an example of a FReeper advocating violence?
I don't think it's more common there than it is here. I am sure it would have been posted here if it was seen on FR.

27. Are you saying that there are posts advocating violence on DU as much as FR?
I am not sure we have that great of access to what's posted on FR. I know I can't go there after being kick out three times.

21. Yes, but it's way more than that. This question has come up before.
There is way more give-and-take here, but more than that, at least in my humble opinion, my mind has been changed more times than I can even count by intelligent and civil discourse here on DU.

Sometimes I even post knowing I'm probably wrong, or totally ambivalent, and wanting to actually READ what others say rather than just profess what I write.
