4. Fundies are also more insidious...

and less easily dismissed as extremists.

6. Some are some aren't
But it all goes back to our society's tolerance for crazy beliefs.

When someone is crazy and says crazy things like "Bush, and the Bilderburg group are all reptilian shape-shifters" we laugh that off, because face it, that's just nuts.

But if you are raised to believe in a virgin birth, a cannabalistic ritual where you drink your savior's blood and the idea that there is this long list of do's and don'ts and if you break that list, you will go to hell for ever where you are tormented and tortured. Oh, and the guy who came up with all this loves you. If you believe in that - - somehow its OK and even acceptable. In fact, if you don't agree in the above - and none of these statements have any lick of proof behind them - - but if you don't believe in that, you are never taken seriously.

So nutjobs can easily hide in a group of people who are unnaturally forcing themselves to believe a bunch of nonsense.

9. Having been raised as a Protestant Christian....

I believe that Christ was all about getting people to think symbolically about a certain spiritual paradigm. Catholics, and Fundies, have twisted this into literal interpretations where the wine that you drink during communion somehow magically transfigures into the actual blood of Christ. They may as well be followers of the teachings of the School of Hogwarts.

10. You would probably like Paul Tillich
He had a very Humanist, Post-Modern take on Christianity...

14. Not to mention the Nazi guard Demjanjuk being deported back to Germany
in May... I think it added up and set him off. What's he got to lose, anyway? He's 88 and even if he gets life in prison, it won't be very long. He may not even be sentenced to prison because of the "cruel and unusual punishment" thing. OTOH, killing a guy in cold blood is intolerable regardless of the gunman's age.

15. Editorial cartoon about this:
Steve Benson is great! It was in today's Arizona Republic but apparently I can't link to a Benson cartoon until tomorrow, the day after it runs. Here's the link:
