Israel says Pelosi delivered the wrong message to Syria.
According to the Drudge Report. Omar claims that he never said he was ready to go ahead with the peace process. I sure hope that this is not right.

1. First, Drudge is often wrong
Second, Israel seems to be in a 'blow em up and let gawd sort it out' mood these days....much like the RW in the US

21. Hardliners in Israel Govt...aligned with US NeoCons would want to
undermine Pelosi's statement.

Check out what Josh Marshall has on it:

4. Drudge can fuck off...
the right wing smear machine is going to work overtime to undermine Pelosi's efforts. She's too smart to let that happen. I just noticed she's got Congressman Tom Lantos with her, who is a brilliant man and knows Israel inside and out. They're not going to do anything stupid or ill advised.

13. Well maybe it is about time....
someone deliver the right message to Israel and the rest of the middle east. They need to get along. I realize you have to have strong defense to stand up to leader cults, but as of late I have seen more provocation on the part of Israel, egged on in part by the US mid-east policy. Ha-mas was a bad choice for Palestine, but it doesn't take a genius to see why it happened. There needs to be a round table talk with all the concerned parties in the middle east. They need to come to an accord and the rest of the world needs to butt out. Unfortunately, because of oil, that won't happen and the US has lost their reputation as an honest broker-which was essential.

If I could exercise my school authority-these fighting children would be separated, I would call 911 for Iraq, SA and Syria would be writing sentences on the chalk board and the US and Iran would be in the Principals office. Just my 2 cents worth.

15. PMO denies peace message to Assad
"The Prime Minister's Office issued a rare "clarification" Wednesday that, in gentle diplomatic terms, contradicted US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's statement in Damascus that she had brought a message from Israel about a willingness to engage in peace talks."

19. I have no doubt that Israel did send a message to Syria from Pelosi
and I also have no doubt the the bush administration is putting pressure on Israel to deny it in order to make Pelosi look bad, and to destroy any possible chance for negotiations

They did it with the Sunshine policy between North and South Korea, they did it a few weeks ago when Israel was trying to establish a dialog with Syria, and they did it when they invaded Iraq based on a lie

We cannot wait two years for this administration to be out of office, they MUST be impeached NOW

The bush administration IS a threat to world peace

20. Here's Josh Marshalls report on the "conflicting statements"
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 09:35 AM by KoKo01
He says to check out the "source" for the first article from Haaretz saying Pelosi delivered a "calming message" and then check the "source" for the article (on Drudge) seeming to refute that.

My read was that the "hardliners" in Olmert's office put out the second report to refute the first.

Here's the link to Josh's comments plus both articles from Haaretz for comparison.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/013445.php

It's pretty clear from the first article that Olmert was interviewed and his statement about Israel NOT attacking Syria is pretty clear...although he says that Israel is prepared in case a misunderstanding precipitates an event.

23. Don't you think it could have been Cheney-PNAC-AIPAC that put
the pressure on after going back and forth with with Rove and RNC? Why would Cheney and friends want any peace talk going on when they're creating hate and support to take out Iran?

Unless it is just the normal dis-reality to keep everyone forming opinions based on crap.

If Pelosi is still in the area - she should go to Tehran. Now that would be something.

We're just drifters in the muck of the Republican Party.

I'm so bitter this morning about the talk about the invasion of Iran at the end of the month. I take all these dates seriously. I don't want Iran invaded. I don't want anymore death. I want this country to be great because it supports life.

Really, really stinking mad at these dis-humans who create dis-ease and dis-reality and dis-life.

25. Let's keep hoping that Iran's releasing hostages is such a
"good will gesture" that it will make it more difficult for Bush. As much as he would like to shove it to Iran because they released the hostages...it at least looks like some "powers that be" are working behind the scenes so that things don't get out of control.

Media seemed to be shocked by the Hostage Release ..and they usually know more than we do. MSNBC was already ramping up a countdown by calling it "Day 13 of the Hostage Crisis" before the release was announced.

Chimperor/Cheney's wings getting clipped more and more every day.

Still, it doesn't mean that they won't try a stunt. :-(

26. I give some credit to an assumption that the Brits had a hand in
this and Blair doesn't want to go out without these two wins - telling Bush to shut it and getting the sailors home. But, we'll soon know a better story when the post-release stories and propaganda comes in. But it does sound as though there are plenty of Middle East haters in their country also.

I hope we can hope from this life giving and torture free release.

Yes, about the news - those Republican military-corporate-prison networks are very transparent - the jesteresses especially, are so dramatic when they push the not so subtle messages to their followers - question this about Dems, believe this about Republicans, this you should accept, this you should reject. It must be very difficult to be consumed with clothes shopping and hair dressing (both malaes and females) and then have to jump to Republican propaganda with the right tone and body language to match the words written for them.

They have done this with other countries including Iraq, South Korea, etc.

This is why we CANNOT wait 2 years for these criminals to be out, we must impeach NOW

18. A few weeks ago there was a report that Israel was starting to establish talks with Syria
Shortly after, the bush administration put pressure on Israel to back off and stop all inititives

During the Lebanon/Israeli conflict, the U.S. did not relate the U.N. ceasefire negotiations which involved the U.S. were NOT relayed by the U.S to Israel for days.

When bush took office North and South Korea were re-establishing a relationship through a policy known as the sunshine policy under Clinton. The bush administration immediately told South Korea to stop it immediately.

I could go on and on, but I have NO DOUBT that Israel DID send a message, and it was reported not only by Haartez, and others.

So today they deny it? I sense the bush administration has there hands in this crap

I saw Wes Clark yesterday, and he related this story:

Nine days after 9/11 a friend at the Pentagon called him and told him that the U.S. was going into Iraq. Clark asked him if they found out that Iraq was involved in 9/11. His friend said, no, they were determined to attack Iraq no matter what. It had nothing to do with 9/11.

We have a president and an administration who are pathetic evil people, who won't talk to anyone who doesn't agree with them

It is time to impeach bush administration, enough is enough

22. I am sure Israel did send a message...
However, there are two points here: (1) the current Israeli ruling coalition is a VERY mixed bunch, and it is possible that the more liberal members are saying one thing, and the more right-wing members another; (2) it seems that Bush and his government don't want peace in the Middle East, or at least don't want Democrats to be involved in establishing peace talks, and may be both leaning on Olmert and misrepresenting him.

I hope that some sort of talks do get established. I am sure that there will be quite a bit of posturing, and back-and-forth statements and denials, on all sides of the issue, before and during the talks; but anything that might lead to peace has to be worth doing.

He didn't give a source, but it looks like we're in for another RapePublic barrage from the talking heads that tries to take our focus off the real issue: Bush's illegal and unpopular war and how to extricate ourselves from the mess he's made in the Middle East.
