12. I don't think he's responsible for this. None of them are, strictly speaking, "responsible" for

these acts. The question was about poisoning the political atmosphere, which is not about being responsible for criminal acts.

I just think he's the craziest one out there, feeding almost nothing but pure bullshit to his followers.

The people pulling the triggers are the ones responsible for pulling the triggers.

4. To pick one, it would definitely be Rush.
He pretty much was the first to take right wing media bias and turn it into a theme for an entire show, and make it a national success.

He was the proof of concept. And still one of the single biggest players of the Right Wing Noise Machine.

7. Other: Anyone who transmits and doesn't have the courtesy to also receive.
You can't have discussion without listening to a wide variety of views. Anyone who simply repeats talking and position points, without giving the issue a robust going-over, is a dumbass. Unfortunately, politics has been a contact sport since Newt Gingrich dreamed up the Contract With ON America!

9. Voted "all"--- but in a way its the supposedly "respected" MSM people-
who give creedence to the whack-job hate-mongers by pretending ( or worse, really believing)and treating them as if they're just "conservative pundits" etc , who may be the most dangerous and poisonous, because "rational" people believe them, whereas you really need to already be a lunatic to believe Rush, Beck,Caribou Barbie, et al.

23. The American people for allowing it
for being to damn lazy to fact-check themselves, to allow the people listed in your poll to think and speak for them and destroy the country.

We all need to look in the mirror when placing blame for the poisoned political culture. We allowed it to happen.

27. Actually, it was the Whigs.
http://hnn.us/articles/3593.html

The first presidential election in which dirty tricks were played was in 1844 ((by the Whigs ))

The first election in which a dirty trick apparently altered the outcome was in 1888. Grover Cleveland was running for re-election against Republican Benjamin Harrison, grandson of Tippecanoe.

In November Cleveland lost New York and the election (though he won more popular votes than Harrison).

The dirty trick? The Englishman who wrote Sir Lionel Sackville-West was not really an Englishman at all. His real name was George Osgoodby. And he was a California Republican. Cleveland had been undone by a Republican hoax.

some deep nastiness behind that smile.
He was successful enough in associating humanitarian values (Liberal) with weakness and un-American, socialistic 'agenda's'.
It was all so stupid, and altogether macho, they went for the bottom. The sixties were so powerful in upsetting the apple cart.
Raygun, as Nixon, quite simply, hated us. Ronnie knew how to appeal the baser instincts of the populace.
I suppose that was the beginning of the sound bite also.

the advent of cable and satellite television and the internet.
