House bill would establish HQ for abortion activismCharlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 6/10/2009 5:00:00 AM
A bill called the "Foreign Relations Authorization Act" is coming up for a vote in the U.S. House -- and opponents of abortion should be wary, says one pro-life leader.
The section of the H.R. 2410 that most concerns pro-lifers establishes an office for global women's issues that is headed by an ambassador who would report directly to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee says it has become clear that the Obama administration will use the office as a sort of headquarters for pro-abortion activism worldwide.
"Indeed, (when) Secretary Clinton...appeared before the House committee a couple of weeks ago (she) was quite forthright and explicit in saying that this administration intends to try to expand abortion, that they see reproductive health as including access to abortion, and that they believe they are entitled to advocate abortion anywhere in the world," the pro-life spokesman explains.
Some countries, however, make abortion illegal on the basis of religion. Apparently, notes Johnson, the Obama administration wants to make it an element of U.S. foreign policy to bring pressures to bear on those governments to legalize abortion. Douglas says it is a dangerous bill, and he asks people to urge their House member to vote no on H.R. 2410.
