1. apparently
not too many people around here care about this.

How many troops have been permanently withdrawn?

Bueller? Bueller?

There is a plan... sort of...

But it is a long way off - 2011 to be exact... but rest assured, the intent is to occupy Iraq with that giant "embassy."

2. Thank You for Reminding
I don't know why posts like this don't get much attention on DU anymore.

You'd get more attention if you said that your cat or dog was sick.

Yes, we're happy that Barack Obama is our President. That doesn't mean that we now have to support wars.
And, yes, we can be patient about getting us out of the stupid predicament that Bush got us into.

Still, many of us came to Democratic Underground because of our opposition to the involvement in Iraq. Let's not forget that, and let's continue to pressure the powers-that-be to get us out of these wars. I don't really believe that we can "win" there. Meanwhile, real people continue to die.

7. "But if...pet has a cough people.. will light candles and hold hands.
What is this "animal compassion" versus "people compassion" phenomenon?

Aren't people animals, too, and deserve our attention?

5. I agree.
It's not OK just because now it's our side doing it. Iraq is over, get out. Afghanistan is a bad idea, don't double down, get out.

6. Yeah. I heard some noise coming from across the water. But, considering "our" new President is
committed to continuing (and expanding) the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan, we had better get used to the new, quiet war that does not intrude on our "beautiful minds."
