Well,I am shocked.

Among the megachurch report's highlights:

_Nearly all those surveyed — 98 percent, including visitors — described themselves as a "committed follower of Jesus Christ." Nearly a quarter hadn't been in any church for a long time before coming to the megachurch.

_Sixty-two percent of megachurch attendees said they had experienced much spiritual growth in the past year. But that does not always translate to behavior churches expect of members: nearly 45 percent of megachurch attenders never volunteer at the church and 32 percent give little or no money to the congregation

1. They went to church-their duty is done. They're absolved.
j/k I have no clue. I don't go to church, nor am I religious.

2. I wonder if that holds across regional differences...
For example: For all of their problems, southerners are well-known to be among the most charitable-gift giving people in the country.

I wonder if the mega/normal church difference you highlight, holds there.

3. I think that's because mega church goers want to be low key
and anonymous.... Plus, they assume that since it's a megachurch that other members will pick up the slack.

5. That would probably be part of it.
How about that there aren't enough activities for volunteers?

They don't need to donate as much because they save when they buy in bulk?

Maybe they rotate when they attend church?

4. I loved the little Protestant churches I went to as a kid (2 of them)
I'd never darken the door of one of these corporate churches.

Well, to be honest, I don't darken the door of any church right now. I don't think highly of organized religion right now. I don't find that any of it suits nor agrees with me.
