VA patient has wrong testicle removed.
He's suing, of course -- but all he's asking for is 200 grand. Well, that plus unspecified damages, which I guess could be hefty:

1. I saw that today in the Los Angeles Times......
I was horrified, and sickened......

There were several mistakes made, along the way...

How do you compensate a man for this sort of horrific loss?

I have no idea....

And money won't really help....

3. The VA is acting more like County charity hospitals for the
poor in the 50's. No one cared. Keep them out of sight and out of mind.

6. I hate when that happens.
At least when they did my knee replacements, they did the correct leg. But that was before the present misadministration began their program of wrecking the VA hospital system.

If I needed them to do major surgery on me these days, I'd worry, and hope other options would present themselves.

9. A woman where I live had the wrong brest removed -- not a VA hospital ...
So I think the message is to just stay out of all hospitals.

10. Are vets allowed to supplement that coverage with private insurance -- and have 'em work together?

14. I think we can...
I've gotta read up on that a little more. I'm planning on getting a high deductible major medical plan to cover me in case of emergency. I just recently registerd with VA, due to losing my employment (plant closing) and resultant group insurance coverage. I never bothered with it before (I'm a Vietnam era Veteran)I'm lucky I've got a VA clinic locally staffed with local people under contract with VA. It's a good deal for maintenance drugs Like Heart meds $8.00 co pay per script, Just like going to the Doctors office...My fear is having the need for major surgery or emergency care....the nearest VA Hospital is Cleveland Ohio thats about a two hour drive from here, I've heard horror stories about that place. Oh!! Hi there Liberal Heart :hi:

11. Removing the wrong body part was SOP at Madigan Army Medical
Center in Tacoma, WA, for awhile. Seems like every other week, I would read a story about that.

15. I had my ACL reconstructed at Madigan.
The doctor used a faulty drill bit which flaked off into my knee. The metal fragments they left in there resulted in 2 more surgeries to my knee.

13. He still hasn't had the other testicle removed.
Why didn't they at least do that, after discovering their mistake?

I hope he gets proper medical care soon.
