PHOTO: "We'd rather go naked than wear fur"

PETA bared all on the Las Vegas strip today in protest against Burberry and its refusal to stop selling fur from farms where the animals are kept in horrible conditions and then killed in the most inhumane ways.

8. The drama of a false choice fallacy
Ok, then. How about you put on something made from cotton? Or synthetics?

:eyes:

And who wants to bet that the sandals they are wearing are made from leather? What, the skin of dead animals is perfectly fine as long as the hair has been removed?

13. Hey they make very cute vegan shoes these days
I'd be surprised if the Peta gals wore leather...but even if they did leather is not fur, fur especially chinchilla is really, really cruel. I think it's ugly too.

15. in some ways
Leather from cows, pigs, goats and other farm animals is different because they are grown for their meat. Their leather is a BY-PRODUCT of the meat industry. Fur on the other hand is all about fur. The meat if used at all is secondary.

I don't know how different that really makes it. But i think it's worth mentioning...

23. Most people...
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 10:26 AM by Hell Hath No Fury
who don't wear fur also don't wear leather. There are plenty of shoes -- including nice "fuck-me pumps" -- that are make of other materials. I am willing to bet those gals are wearing them.

Payless Shoes is great for leather free footwear -- I have gotten amazingly fun/sexy shoes there.

especially if you consider other countries. most indians for instance, do not wear fur, but do wear leather shoes.

33. My response was in regards to publicity stunts in general
Look at the responses to this thread: not one was along the lines of, "Hmm, maybe they have a point." In addition, I am inclined to think they were hired for this stunt; I stretches my credulity that an animal rights group could find three drop-dead gorgeous women willing to bare it all (or give the appearance thereof) in public from among the activist core of their membership. As such, they are likely all that conscientious about what they are wearing as much as who.

34. Nah, they weren't hired

come on, Pamela Anderson, Christy Turlington, and many more drop dead gorgeous
famous people have done it. I think the majority of americans love animals. PETA can
find hundreds are of beautiful women that will volunteer for this. And I agree with other
poaters here that they need to start putting some men in the campaign, it's just not fair!

43. New Rule: You can't call it a naked protest if you're covered up
As someone who goes to nudist camps I think I'm qualified to say, if you're gonna protest naked, actually BE naked, this sort of thing doesn't count
