They are flesh and blood Americans, except that sending them to fight an illegal and immoral war has made them statistics. So much life sacrificed, for nothing but an effort for Bush to be known as a "wartime" president.
War? Please spare me. What country did we declare war against? We never issued a formal declaration of war against Iraq, we invaded their country, and overthrew Saddam Hussein. I do not dispute his oppression of the Iraqi people, but there are other, even more brutal despots, who Bush leaves alone.
He was plotting an attack against Iraq while he was still governor of Texas. Now, apparently, he is eager to start a war with Iran, and then, with Syria. He could not have a diplomatic corps if his life depended on it. He only knows one thing, and that's to utter harsh, bellicose statements, and rebuff any approaches by a country he considers unfriendly.
Unlucky for him, Syria and Iran are a part of the Mideast. If he believes that he can finesse the hidden currents, and the complexities of politics in that region, he is more out of touch than even I could imagine.
The Saudis have turned against his policies. He is isolated, as he deserves to be. I only pray that for the next two years, we can keep him at arm's length, and ignore his increasingly bellicose mutterings.
