Tonight I held an Academy Award in my hand
I have just returned from a house party for the producers and directors
of Soldiers Speak Out, a new documentary from the same folks who created
The Panama Deception, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1992. They had brought the Academy Award with them as evidence of the quality of work they do. We first met the producer at a New Year's Eve party and since we're building a retirement house in Panama, we ordered a copy of The Panama Deception for ourselves. It "is the untold story of the 1989 US invasion of Panama, the shocking events of the assault, the true motivation for the invasion and a look at how and why the mainstream media collaborated with the US government to censor information and deceive the American public." It's a real eye-opener, and compelling in the eerie similarities between
the manipulation of Poppa Bush's invasion of Panama and W's invasion of Iraq.

Tonight we had a screening of Soldiers Speak Out. There's a 5 minute trailer posted on You Tube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xSYp-uOTTg

Did you know that there have been 40,000 desertions during the Iraq War?

Did you know that the U.S. Military is actively recruiting Mexican nationals
at the border, and in Mexico, promising citizenship, if they will join the U.S. Military?

Did you know that the U.S. Military has loosened its standards in order
to get enough bodies to feed the war machine that it now accepts recruits
with criminal records?

The Empowerment Project is raising funds to develop a Spanish language version
of Soldiers Speak Out, distribute copies to veterans groups, libraries, schools, wherever there is a chance to bring the truth regarding the
war experience, in the hopes of counteracting the lies and deceptions of military recruiters.

Please take a look and pass the information on to groups that might have an interest.

2. LOL. Yes. And heavy. And not solid gold. It had been handled
so many times that the finish was wearing off!

4. It's suprisingly heavy, isn't it?
I've held one, too. They make great doorstops.

5. LOL. This is the second person I've met in the last month who has one
The other person is a future neighbor in Panama. His Oscar was in the scientific
and engineering category for film editing.

I held King Vidors academy award.

I was working on a commercial as an assistant cameraman about 14 years ago.

we were shooting in the house of his granddaughter.

It was sitting on the mantle.

during lunch after I ate. I wondered back onto the set (which was the living room of the house), no one was around I picked it up, yeah it was heavy and proceeded to give my fantasy acceptance speech. :/

no one walked in on me, but it was like touching fame for a moment.

Just make sure if ever you win one, thank your parents. :)

9. heh #4 here
Imagine, how cool is that.
A friend of mine has one. I think he received it in '92' for sci/tech achievement and he has a photo in his home office of Richard Dreyfuss handing him the oscar.

Hey I also attended the Sci-Tech Awards held two weeks before the Academy Awards, and was hosted by Maggie Gyllenhaal at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. That was a fun night. Sweet gal that Maggie.
