Call me a sap, but every month I write to this President, President Obama, and I tell
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 06:43 PM by Mike 03
him three things:

1. His Presidency is the the most important event that has happened during my lifetime.
2. That I trust him but I worry about him burning himself out.
3. I urge him to ignore the criticism he is getting.

So, maybe I am naive, or just too faithful, but this is my routine.

My rationale is: If a person gives his or her all, and does not receive any positive feedback, they might lose their gumption to keep fighting.

After all, we are only human. I could never in a million years do what President Obama is doing now in terms of stamina, making appearances, making speeches, launching investigations. The guy is amazing. His schedule would kill me.

The reason I write to him is just so that he is aware that some people out here appreciate the effort he is making to make things better for us.

2. You're a fine human being and the best kind of supporter a President could hope for.
And you're right.

4. I guess it is a leap of faith..but I think .that there is more good than
bad in Obama. I am with the good. And I am with ClarkUSA on this too.
Sure, he cannot be perfect. But it is too soon to know for sure what the end result will be.
And many are angry. Ok, but 90 days in, did anyone know what FDR would do?

5. That is a great idea
Maybe if I do that I won't be so bummed out by all the negativity. My local Democratic Club hates our President so I can't even go there to get away from the craziness.

6. 3*) First check and see if the criticism he's getting is stupid, then ignore.

11. Yup. Criticism (and even attacks) should be mined for the gold before flushing.
 It's a way to become wealthy.

8. Good for you!
I'm sure he gets plenty of negativity from all sides. I don't think you're a sap at all. I think that is a very decent thing to do. :)

10. You're a sap.
It's absolutely unamerican and pretty disgusting for anyone to give a politician blind loyalty without seriously looking at what that politician is doing and evaluating it.

To tell him that you give him such unconditional support divorced from result, and that he so important regardless of whatever he is doing, and that he should ignore constituents who might have important things to say to him is really a sign that you you failed 3rd grade Social Studies.

15. Monthly? I don't write to my relatives that often.
Forget sap, you've darn near graduated to stalker.

As far as content goes, we really don't want elected officials ignoring criticism. Representative democracy doesn't really work that way.
