the media (including c-span) has changed 'torture' to

'enhanced techniques'

its as if they all agreed to never say 'torture' again.

what's up with that?

the neo cons did TORTURE.

keeping the torture pictures secret won't change that.

1. If they dial it back, it's easier for the war criminals and their cover-up crew to walk.
That's why. The corporate media is part of the game.

4. They almost have to since there is a dispute ongoing about these techniques
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 12:33 PM by HughMoran
Yes, yes, I know - I haven't the slightest doubt in my mind that it is/was torture, but until Congress officially investigates the use of torture by Cheneyco, those who are not supposed to have an opinion on the topic have to call it what the "President" called it.

If this isn't motivation enough for the Dems in Congress to get off their ass and call it what it was (and jail CHeney), I don't know what is.

7. That's like saying there's a dispute whether the earth is round
just because a handful of people says it's flat.

It's a false dispute -- the conservatives thrive on such things.

9. Yes, it's mind-blowing isn't it?
Unfortunately, there is something to the old Nixon expression "if the President does it, then it is legal". It's up to Congress or Justice to say "umm, no - that was torture and you're going to jail". Unless and until the Dems decide to open this can of worms and call a spade a spade, it's "enhanced interrogation techniques".

5. It does seem we are better at seeing horrors from a distance
then right in front of us. Probably 30 years from now, they will be talking about the torture in Iraq in high school classes. I remember in high school being shown films on the Holocaust and yet the teacher would not debate how wrong the Vietnam war was, because she was for it.
