Need some frivolous Congressional investigations during the Clinton years
I'm trying to rebut a LTTE in my local paper today that is comparing the Democratic congress to the Spanish Inquisition and the era of Joseph McCarthy...

I'm going to chastise the writer about his lack of memory and cite at least some of the following:

1) The investigation into the Clinton's cat, Socks
2) Over 150 hours spent investigating the White House Christmas Card list.
3) At least 5 or 6 separate investigations into the suicide of Vince Foster.
4) Whitewater - tens of millions of dollars and 10 years and nothing tied to the White House.

Anything else and/or better?

1. check out DVD "The Hunting of the President" - maybe even a review
of the doc would have a list.

2. Thanks -
I didn't see much useful in the 30-40 amazon reviews that I scanned... but, good idea. I don't have time to rent the DVD as I'd like to respond to the LTTE tonight.

I appreciate it.

And, we've had what, maybe 2 or 3 hearings so far in Congress? The Sampson hearing, the GSA one and that's about it so far, right?

11. That investigation really shows just how hypocritical the GOP is.
Clinton couldn't even fire a few travel agents without a huge uproar but we are engaging in a partisan witch hunt over the firing of 8 US Attorneys. :eyes:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/17/AR2005121700992.html

In an interview last week, Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, said "it's a fair comment" that the GOP-controlled Congress has done insufficient oversight and "ought to be" doing more.

"Republican Congresses tend to overinvestigate Democratic administrations and underinvestigate their own," said Davis, who added that he has tried to pick up some of the slack with his committee. "I get concerned we lose our separation of powers when one party controls both branches."

Democrats on the committee said the panel issued 1,052 subpoenas to probe alleged misconduct by the Clinton administration and the Democratic Party between 1997 and 2002, at a cost of more than $35 million. By contrast, the committee under Davis has issued three subpoenas to the Bush administration, two to the Energy Department over nuclear waste disposal at Yucca Mountain, and one last week to the Defense Department over Katrina documents.
