Flint's Michael Moore: Time for big changes for General Motors and ditch the name
by Ron Fonger | The Flint Journal
Wednesday June 03, 2009

GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- Does Michael Moore have a screw loose or are his new ideas for General Motors so unconventional that they just might work?

Among those ideas: Ditching the venerable GM moniker.

"I would bury the name," he said of the 100-year-old company. "There's no way to recover from the the damage they have done to the brand."

In an interview with The Flint Journal Wednesday, the Flint-area native suggested he's earned some credibility for having warned the country years ago about an arrogant, out-of-touch GM via his 1989 documentary "Roger & Me."

"I tried to say something about it. I tried to wake people up and not much happened ... ," he said. "After a certain number of things I've done ... things I've predicted that (that have happened), I am asking humbly ... that I be given the benefit of the doubt, and that (these ideas ) at least get an airing ...

"I'm at least owed that."

NRA "owes him" anything. Maybe the American public owes him a debt of gratitude for his films, though. Then again, he's made a fortune from them, so maybe the American public has paid some of that debt.

17. Being heard is not asking much.
I don't see his idea as preposterous. Yes, it should be debated.

25. I never said he was asking a lot or that his idea was preposterous or that it should not be debated.
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 01:58 PM by No Elephants
I said only that GM did not "owe" him; and I even put the word "owe" in quotation marks each time I used it.

His points about guns are worthy of debate, too, but the NRA doesn't really "owe" him anything.

on changing the factories to producing mass transit and alternative/hybrid vehicles. This is the wave of the future and means US jobs remain in the US.

8. I've complied a list of potential names.....
Studebaker, Nash, Packard, Tucker, DeSoto, Rambler, Auburn, Stanley steamer, Pierce-Arrow, Oldsmobile, Leland, Maxwell, Overland, Franklin, Cord......

These are all fresh new names that GM could take that aren't associated with.... car failures... like the name.....General Motors.

Want more.... I've got hundreds more.
