Is it a farce? What are the chances of ahmadinejad being replaced?

1. Not a farce in the traditional sense, but ahmadinejad will very likely be replaced

the president in iran doesn't have a lot of power to do anything, because everything that is done needs the authorization of the supreme leader. However, the idea is that if there is a reformist president like mosauvi or the dude before ahmadinejad long enough, things might become more democratic. But only time will tell...

2. Depends on your definition of "Farce"

Most people simply assume that any election in any country we're supposed to dislike is a farce.

That said, no, Iran's pretty good with elections. The main farcical element is the "Supreme leader" position. But since there's no pretense that the presidency holds much power at all in Iran, I guess even that's a bit of a stretch.

Basically Ahmedinejad - and whoever relaplces him - is a glorified ribbon-cutter.
