Omahan, Catholic church settle pregnancy-discrimination suit

An Omaha church and a former employee who alleged she was fired last year for getting pregnant out of wedlock have apparently resolved their differences.
A federal judge this week dismissed Tracy McGinnis’ lawsuit against Christ the King Church. Her attorney on Wednesday said the case has been settled.
“Our position is that the parties have resolved their differences,’’ said Omaha attorney Aaron Smeall.
Smeall declined to discuss terms of the settlement. Pat Flood, an Omaha attorney representing the church, also declined to comment.
McGinnis, who was 42 when her lawsuit was filed, alleged discrimination based on pregnancy, marital status and age. She argued that a younger teacher who wasn’t married and became pregnant was not terminated. That woman got married three months after the church learned she was pregnant, McGinnis said in her lawsuit.
