Work Visa Bill Threatens Indian Outsourcers
Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 04:52 PM by Fresh_Start
"A new bill in Washington aimed at tightening the rules for companies in the U.S. that hire skilled workers from abroad could threaten the business model for outsourcing firms such as Wipro Technologies ...The bill, introduced by Senators Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), would change many of the rules companies must follow to obtain temporary work visas, known as H-1Bs and L-1s. The most controversial new rule would bar companies with more than 50 U.S. employees from getting any additional work visas if more than 50% of their U.S. workforce is made up of H-1B or L-1 visa holders."

"If enacted, the legislation would stop virtually all of the major Indian outsourcing firms from bringing new employees into the U.S., jeopardizing their work for American clients."

Where were the outsourcers concerns about Americas while the H1B frauds were going on? You know, where they pretended they couldn't find qualified employees in the US. Oh, they stood happily on the side contributing to the fraud.

4. A few DUers have put up articles, from months ago, saying how India has engaged in protectionism.
Should they be shocked by this response?

5. "jeopardizing their work for American clients" - Oh. Spare. Me. As one of the
still employed American tech workers, let me tell you. The code is awful and the turn-around time is unreal. The hourly rate may be less, but the hours to do the job is a whole lot more.
