Disgusting, racist Buchanan calls Sotomayor a "quota queen" in his column.
Buchanan and his ilk are unabashed, shameless bigots and mysoginists.

How can it be that a woman who graduated at the top of her HS class and two Ivy League schools, was editor of the law journal and has served on the bench for 17 years (MORE THAN ANY OTHER JUDDGE EVERY NOMINATED TO THE SCOTUS!!!), is filling a "quota"?!?!?!?!

I am so sick of this stone-age rhetoric....that somehow if one is born male, straight and white, then they get to serve as the baseline that the rest of us should be judged by. :grr:

In his June 2 Creators Syndicate column, MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan asserted: "Like Lani Guinier ... Sotomayor is a quota queen. She believes in, preaches and practices race-based justice. Her burying the appeal of the white New Haven firefighters, who were denied promotions they had won in competitive exams, was a no-brainer for her."

In fact, as Media Matters for America noted, the issue in Ricci v. DeStafano did not concern quotas; the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said -- in an opinion written by one of Sotomayor's colleagues and joined by Sotomayor and three other judges -- that it was bound by precedent interpreting Title VII's employment discrimination prohibitions to rule as it did in the case.

And why does Tweety continue to have him on his show to spout off? And it's not just a matter of his "contract" with MSNBC...because he's not on Countdown and he's not on Rachel's show (anymore). I'm sure if Tweety wanted to give him the boot, he could.

2. reusing attacks
Wasn't one of Clinton's nominees for a cabinet post attack in the same way. I think her name was something like Lani Guiuer.

3. A bit off topic, perhaps...
While I certainly consider her to be eminently qualified for the position, I'm not at all impressed by the fact that she went to Ivy League colleges. After all, where do you think all of the leaders of Wall Street went to school? Where did that get us? I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by the quality of Ivy League graduates in anything but math and science.

5. I agree with you. There are very good non-Ivy League schools out there. I think it's more
important that she was at the top of her class at each school she attended and that she was voted to be the editor of the law journal at a law school that is no cakewalk to get into to.

Shrubbie went to Ivy League schools and look where that got us, so no just attending an Ivy League school, does not make on eminently qualified.

With that said, I believe that Sotomayor is eminently qualified and all this talk of "reverse racism" and "quotas" is 100% racist, sexist rubbish.

6. Pat the Rat has had it in for Puerto Rico
for at least 20 years. Back in 1989 or so, I recall reading one of his columns in the LA Daily News in which he vehemently opposed Puerto Rican statehood. The next week, he suggested that the US offer statehood to the Anglophone provinces of Canada if the Meech Lake accords were to fail and Canada were to split up as a result.

7. If I put up a thread telling MSNBC that we tune out when he comes on
would anyone back it up?

He's horrible. He was horrible to Hillary AND horrible to Obama.

If we take individual potshots, it won't get across.

8. Hardball has him on usually with Lawrence O'Donnell. It's a good counterweight to the guest lineup.
I have a feeling we're headed to the point where certain shows only have on people that agree with the host, and then all the shows will be like Limbaugh on the right and Olbermann on the left, where the host doesn't want to deal directly with opponents.

It's kind of cowardly and bad for debate.

11. Sorry, even though I may be a bit biased, one cannot compare Olbermann to Limbaugh.
You just can't.

I got hooked on Olbermann years ago not because of his perspective, but because it was actually a venue on cable where I actually learned something new. New facts.

Limbaugh does not deal in facts. He deals in lies and smears.

And I don't mind hearing differing views. But I don't believe that allowing stone-age sexists and bigots on to debate serious matters of policy and law adds anything to the national discourse.

Calling this accomplished woman a "quota queen" is nothing short of what I stated above.

12. It's valid with regard to the one point I raised.
Neither of them will have on guests who oppose their views.

I can't think of any other shows on any of the networks that do this.

15. We need Olbermann to counterbalance the RW spin of most cable news
and radio. If the RW shows on Fox and CNN don't think they should have counterweights, why should Olbermann?

16. Indeed. The RW completely controlled the echo chamber during the Clinton years
and they were almost able to take him down.

While I am a huge fan of balanced, unbiased journalism, Olbermann is well-deserved and a singular voice for the left's perspective on cable and a needed antedote to the well-oiled and choreographed attacks from the RW.

18. What other shows never have on guests with opposing views?
Limbaugh and Olbermann are the only two I'm aware of.

Any others?

Oh, wait, that wasn't my reaction when I saw him on my TeeVee a few minutes ago.

He was bitching and moaning about the fucking BAKKE CASE!

I really don't get why he still gets to go on the TeeVee. He's a pathetic old hack.
