KCK clinic says vandalism may be linked to Tiller suspect

The suspect in Sunday’s slaying of Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller matches the description of a man who vandalized a Kansas City, Kan., clinic twice in the past month — including the day before Tiller was killed, the clinic’s office manager said today.

Scott Roeder, who is being held in Wichita in connection with Tiller’s death, is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Wichita this afternoon.

Jeffrey Pederson, office manager of the Central Family Medicine clinic, 720 Central Ave., said a man glued the locks shut on the clinic’s doors on May 23 and again on Saturday morning.

Pederson said he filed a police report after both incidents and contacted the FBI, giving them the suspect’s license plate number after Saturday’s incident.

"Yet more fearful is the same man was caught on security cameras 2 times in the past week gluing the locks at the small clinic in KC. The last being yesterday shortly before the Doctor was to arrive. Had he not been frightened off the doctor would have been a clear target when he tried to enter 30 minutes later."

It's quite clear there were enough red flags on this guy to backdrop a soviet may day parade. But the target was only a women's clinic doctor, no one special.

They had that guy who shot those two kids out of boot camp in front of the recruiting station in Little Rock under surveillance, because he had travelled to Yemen and got arrested there for using a SOMALI passport.

Maybe if they'd been watching him more closely, those kids would not have been shot.

If that clinic didn't have video surveillance happening...well, I give up. It seems like they really should have that sort of protection.

Dr. Tiller's Late Term Abortion Care clinic on E. Kellogg Street in Wichita, KS, has been closed. It's not going to reopen. This KC clinic mightt have a different fate.

That's what his wife said, and was verified by a doctor from Nebraska who initially thought it was going to open again.

On Sunday morning, Pederson said, he got a call from Wichita about Tiller’s murder. At 1 p.m., he said he got another call from his Wichita contact who gave him the suspect’s license plate.

“I was just sick,” he said. “That was the plate I gave the FBI Saturday. I called the FBI back and said, ‘It’s the same car. It’s the same guy.’”

The article also notes the repeat behavior of Roeder having vandalized this clinic in 2000 as well.

So, Roeder has a history of behavior, from vandalizing to possessing bomb equipment.

He also has been in contact with Cheryl Sullenger, Operation Rescue's senior policy adviser, who in 1988 was convicted of conspiring to bomb a California abortion clinic. We know this because when questioned about her name and phone number having been seen in his car, she saidshe hasn't spoken with Roeder recently. "No, he hasn't called me recently," Sullenger said. Recently clearly means he has called her before.
