Did FreeRepublic.com destroy evidence
when they scrubbed the site of Dan Roeder's posts?

Inquiring minds would like to know. Maybe so would the FBI.

1. If it's been on a computer..

...you really can't destroy it.

2. Too many traces left.
The server. The internet.

Ghost come back to haunt them.

4. The only way to do that "completely" would be to physically destroy the server(s) and even then
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 08:31 AM by patrice
you'd have the tracks to and from those servers left in the internet.

7. I can erase any file to be unrecoverable
http://www.fileshredder.org/

IT takes time, but I don't need to destroy a computer. Hell, even destroying a computer won't necessarily remove the data from a hard drive.

Cached data on the internet is a whole other ball of wax.

10. Unless they were part of the murder or if a legal order is provided for the information
they can delete whatever the hell they wish. It's their web site. Sucks in this case but that's what makes the internet so great.

12. After he was arrested, wasn't his one phone call to them?
If so, they cooperated with a man under arrest for murder by taking down those posts.

I hope they simply took the posts off the internet to save their servers from getting overloaded. If they completely destroyed the data, then they're in deep trouble for destroying evidence.
