We made our abortion decision in 1976. Actually, it was of course hers. But we had a CHOICE.
She was just 20, and it was a surprise pregnancy. No, we weren't married (yet). Yes, she decided to carry the baby to term. And the baby will be 33 this year, and of course she's always been loved, and even though Mom and I split up long ago, we made it 18 years. Some good times, there. We did well, I think.

But here's the bottom line: IT WAS HER CHOICE. Just like Sarah Palin had a choice, so did she; WHY DISRESPECT WOMEN when they have EVERY RIGHT to make their own decisions about their reproductive rights?

I was and have been a good Dad. But even in that Gerald Ford era, I said to my future wife, the decision is yours. And I am there for you.

What part of this is so very hard to understand? Let alone worth killing for.

1. Good for you and her mother and your daughter -
You're absolutely right.

It's about choice.

That's why I go nuts when I hear about "abortion rights." It's not that - it's about the right to make the choice.

The language was corrupted from the beginning by the anti-choice bunch when they snagged the "pro-life" label, and the weenies let them get away with it.

They've gotten away with everything, and it's time now for the people who support a woman's right to choose to rise up and demand that these terrorist groups be brought to justice, be held accountable for their hateful acts.

Choice is legal. A man was murdered for doing something that was perfectly legal.

As you wrote, it's about choice.

And, yeah, eighteen years is a pretty good run....................

2. Thank you. I am just stunned by this killing; the disrespect for women is stunning.
My Mom raised my brother and me alone in the 50s-60s. Tough times. She was a Depression survivor who never gave up, no matter what. We had no money, but she got us through everything, including college. What the HELL right does someone have to tell women what to think? What to decide, and what to believe? I think of Mom (who died in 2003) with today's story, although she never had an abortion.

She was a pioneer. And the first woman in the U.S. to win the War Production Board Award during World War II. One great lady.

3. Well, admit that "pro-life" sounds better than "anti-woman."
Or "anti-children" if it comes to that. Better to have so many that they are abandoned as in Romania or shot as vermin as in one notorious South American nation.

Better to have so many children that the mothers die young and the children beg in the streets. MUCH better policy, that. But hard to put into a catch phrase.

5. "Clear Skies Initiative" sounds better than "Clear The Skies of Birds Initiative"
It's the Wise Use Movement.

9. We're ALL "pro-life,"
but we let those bastards nail us with the "pro-abortion" label. And we took it.

No one "favors" abortion. It would be nice if there were no need for abortions, but this is the real world, and the need will always be there.

But, they pre-empted our side, and that was, I always thought, a big mistake.

They're just gotten away with so much through the years ......................

6. Thank you. It's a life well lived. And so very long ago.
I appreciate the warm comments. And I miss my daughter, although I visited her in March. That's hardly good enough, anymore.

7. I wrote about my friend and her choice
Edited on Mon Jun-01-09 10:32 PM by omega minimo
who now has a son of her own.

The point of my story -- and yours -- was the love and support we provided to the women when they needed it, no matter what they decided.

My friend told me years later I was the only who said that to her. It meant a lot to us both.

I thought that might help people relate to the sense so many miss, who want to interject their opinions on a privacy and health issue, when they're talking about complete (hypothetical) strangers, let alone someone they love.
