Arrest Made In Slaying of Dr. Tiller
Edited on Sun May-31-09 03:41 PM by KittyWampus
Arrest made in slaying of Kan. abortion doctor

WICHITA, Kansas - An arrest has been made in the slaying of late-term abortion doctor George Tiller, who was gunned down Sunday morning at his church in Wichita, Kan., according to an FBI spokesperson.

Tiller, a prominent advocate for abortion rights wounded by a protester more than a decade ago, was serving as an usher and his wife was in the choir at the time of the shooting, his attorney said.

Tiller was shot during morning services at Reformation Lutheran Church, attorney Dan Monnat said. FBI said the suspect was apprehended without incident. An earlier manhunt was focused on a car registered to a Kansas City suburb nearly 200 miles away.

National anti-abortion groups had long focused on Tiller, one of the nation's few providers of late-term abortions. In 1991, the Summer of Mercy protests organized by Operation Rescue drew thousands of anti-abortion activists to this city for demonstrations marked by civil disobedience and mass arrests.

2. "Slaying" "gunned-down" What's with all the euphamisms for murder?
Edited on Sun May-31-09 03:43 PM by ColbertWatcher
I know the OP is only using original language of the article, but come on.

The GOP-controlled media can't say "torture" or "war criminal," now they can't say "murder."

No wonder they have no problem with keeping the rape and torture pictures hidden.

American women may not be shrouded in burqas, but damn if our media isn't.

3. "slay" and "gun down" are both visceral terms I find equally punchy/dramatic.

I don't think there's any evidence of bias here.

in this horrible crime. Let everyone chew on that image.

Evil evil armed right wing religion comes to a church and shows again how savage and hypocritical these rat bastards are.

8. I'm surprised the word doctor was used.
Usually a made-up word is used instead.

6. The doctor was murdered IN CHURCH???????
Ye cats and little fishes! The nutcase who did it didn't care how many others he endangered, didn't care that he desecrated a sacred space and traumatized everyone there. And the people who think this was great call themselves "pro-life good Christians."

7. There's something odd about the quote from the killer's accomplices ...
Edited on Sun May-31-09 04:15 PM by ColbertWatcher
"We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down," said Troy Newman, Operation Rescue's president. "Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning."

What crime did Tiller commit for which he needed to be "brought to justice"?

Abortion foes fear backlash to Tiller's murder

While many anti-abortion leaders swiftly issued statements condemning the shooting, their expressions of dismay were not echoed by Randall Terry, a veteran anti-abortion activist whose protests have often targeted Tiller.

"George Tiller was a mass murderer and we cannot stop saying that," Terry said. "He was an evil man — his hands were covered with blood."

Terry said he was now concerned that the Obama administration "will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions."

11. NOW they fear a backlash for their hatred.
So much for thinking before they acted.

13. They are still pissed that Dr. Tiller was acquitted for trumped up charges
<SNIP>Tiller remained prominent in the news, in part because of an investigation started begun by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, an abortion opponent.

Prosecutors had alleged that Tiller had gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires. A jury in March acquitted Tiller of all 19 misdemeanor counts.<SNIP>

So Dr. Tiller was only free of those charges a couple of months.
