Rangel cracks a good one . . .
May 31, 2009

It was an innocuous question, asked of Representative Charles B. Rangel by a reporter as he left a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a Hudson River park on Saturday morning: What should President Obama do during his visit to New York?

The congressman, who had been reminiscing at the podium about his boyhood when he took the 125th Street trolley to the piers to watch the boats, responded with an apparent off-the-cuff quip: “Make certain he doesn’t run around in East Harlem without identification.

By Sunday morning, that quip with its allusion to the fatal shooting of a black off-duty police officer by a white officer, was the stuff of tabloid headlines. “Even Bam May Not Be Safe, Sez Rangel” said a Daily News headline spread across two pages, reporting the remark as “a warning” to the president, who made a brief trip to the city on Saturday, to watch his back . . .

1. Lord Rupert the Alien owns the Daily News.
Like Rupert's Fox Noose Nutwork, its bias for Mammon shows through in every word.

Going by both, it's clear Murdoch doesn't believe in the First Amendment, either.

2. Sorry, Murdoch does not own the Daily News. Mort Zuckerman does.
Zuckerman (Canadian)

Murdoch (Australian)

3. Of course! My mistake!
Sorry about that. I was thinking "Post" when my eyes saw "Daily News."

I don't like Zuckerman's POV much, either. It seems about the same as Murdoch's.

Mike Royko called Rupert "The Alien" because Murdoch was willing to switch nationalities in order to make a buck as a newspaper owner in America. Ever since Pruneface Reagan and his krew got done with the FCC ownership rules, it's been lights out on America.

5. Roll back the rules. No foreign ownership.
And let's do for the media what we did for the presidency. Native born ownership. I am still outraged that Murdoch was allowed to buy a citizenship in this country.

4. Love Rangel & comforted by the fact that his words get twisted badly too
Sorta felt like I was the lone ranger in that category today.
