GOP auctioning off a chance to have dinner with Newt Gingrich
For GOP, It's Newt as the Draw

Taking a page out of the Democratic fundraising machine's recent playbook, Republicans, too, are offering one of their lucky donors a free trip to Washington.

But the GOP contest differs in a few stark ways. It's charging contestants ten times more than the Democratic entrance fee, to start with. And, of course, the GOP isn't promising a night with Barack Obama, as Democrats are.

Instead, the lucky Republican winner gets dinner with GOP poster-boy Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker who is positioning himself as a 2012 presidential contender.

"If you've ever watched Newt on TV and thought 'I'd like to meet this guy,' this is your chance!" reads a fundraising solicitation e-mailed today from Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

1. I'd be afraid he'd eat my share, as well.

:P

Or ask me to have an affair with him while his wife was home with the flu.

5. I'd pay money to NOT attend dinner with him.
Anything the man said would trigger my gag reflex, instantly.

21. They'd raise a lot more money that way.
America! Newt Gingrich is going drop by somebody's house unannounced and stay for dinner! But for only $25.00, you can guarantee that your house will not be the one.

Worth every penny.

6. Can I wear my "Go to Hell Newt Gingrich!" button?
Just found it in a box of old junk the other day, been looking for a reason to dust it off.

8. On the other hand, that could be money well spent.
For the right person that would make his dinner a nightmare.

12. If I get the winning bid at 28 cents, do I have to actually show up?
And I would want to pick the place - but that might take some research to find the most disgusting greasy spoon dive in America.

18. I'd like to see him have his just deserts
That would be fun to watch.

(Note for language and grammar lovers: The actual phrase is "just deserts" and it's pronounced like "just desserts." The spelling and usage are correct.)

19. They will be lined up around the corner
Seriously.

A lot of the GOP nutcases worship Newt. I was at a local bookstore a while back when he was autographing books. There were a lot of people there. The first guy in line was an otherwise normal looking 20-something. He had about a dozen books and said he planned to give them to everyone in his family for Christmas.

off in public like the two-bit whores they are - guess this was what Obama meant about bringing more transparency to gov't

several times.
I'd give $10, and drive to DC myself.

Who would want to eat with that fucking pig?
