1. That is a great idea.
Children who mistreat or abuse animals quite often grow up to turn that abuse on humans. In fact, hurting animals for 'fun' is a red flag warning to parents to get their kid some help.

2. Why waste time with this kind of indoctrination? We all know that animals were
placed here for our amusement and exploitation.

:sarcasm:

Most on DU seem to agree with that sentiment, if the pro-hunting, anti-PETA posts are to be believed.

3. Shouldn't parents be doing this anyway?
We have pets and our children are taught to love them, respect them and, since my son is older and has chores, feed and water them.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for humane education (I was on the local HS board once), but it irks me to no end that parents aren't doing this and, thus, we need a program.

Kind of bitter sweet.

9. Kinda sad that there has to be a program like this..
But I say full speed ahead. Education and empathy are never bad things.

10. there wasnt a lot of details that i saw, but i hope the program will not try to undermine
stuff that parents who hunt, farm etc are teaching their kids. I am pretty sure that i am a million miles from FLVEGANs viewpoint when it comes to animals and i dont think i should be able to force my views on his/her kids or vice versa/
