"...six other prisons..." YOU ARE TORTURING US AS WELL
Edited on Thu May-28-09 09:11 AM by peacetalksforall
I deeply resent the Obama adminstration only referencing Guantanamo and Abu Graib ever since they took office - just as the former administration did - just as corporate tv does.

In a DU thread about torture, this is the part that is quoted in the op:

Source: Reuters

Photographs of Iraqi prisoner abuse which U.S. President Barack Obama does not want released include images of apparent rape and sexual abuse, Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on Thursday.

The images are among photographs included in a 2004 report into prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison conducted by U.S. Major General Antonio Taguba.

Taguba included allegations of rape and sexual abuse in his report, and on Wednesday he confirmed to the Daily Telegraph that images supporting those allegations were also in the file.

"These pictures show torture, abuse, rape and every indecency," Taguba, who retired in January 2007, was quoted as saying in the paper.

WHEN YOU GO TO THE LINK (for alertnet) YOU WILL SEE THIS PARAGRAPH:

"The photographs relate to 400 alleged cases of abuse carried out at Abu Ghraib and six other prisons between 2001 and 2005. (Reporting by Luke Baker; Editing by Jon Boyle) "

SIX OTHER PRISONS !!!!!! SIX OTHER PRISONS?

How often do you see this? Aren't they the 'secret prisons'?

I am trying to be very patient with Pres. Obama and am complying with the wait and see request that his supporters take - but I won't tolerate the delusion that there are only Gitmo and Abu Graib when he addresses torture. It is deceiving.

Parallel to the torture and rape, we should know where those prisons are exactly (though we know plenty already) - AND WE NEED TO KNOW THIS ---------- WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO CLOSE?

I believe the six is more like twelve?

THIS IS THE UNTITED STATES OF AMERICA?

With select corporations and industries making money off of this?

Please, President Obama, MAKE IT STOP. YOU ARE TORTURING US WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT OUR COUNTRY IS DOING THIS.

it legally questionable that it is a parallel to Guantanamo in that it is on leased or owned land by/of the U.S.

My main point that I want everyone to catch is that the others are finally being mentioned in the Reuters link to the article or v.v. - in quotes.

My other point is that we are perpetuating, not stopping?, not making right, not healing, not apologizing. We are still on the same path - making it look like it is all on the island of Cuba and in Iraq.

5. Yes, you are correct. When Obama said Bagram would not be shut down,
I didn't need to know any more. I had all the info I needed.

6. I think we need to be considering marching against any torture and direct it to our current Pres
Rolling over from administration to administration really means the end our our country. Why fight for budget balance, health care improvements, transparency on other issues while we are decimating the souls of humans like ourself?

10. We have to be sure first. I know some torturing is still taking place from prisoner accounts,
but I wouldn't pretend to know if this adminstration has its hands in it directly. I do know though, if we're keeping rendition, that most likely is not good.

9. Yes, I saw it. Extremely well done. Tragic. What did he ever do to deserve
us descending on his country, on him, on his family, his community. A bunch of brass and a bunch of joking, sneering, proseltizing, cold-hearted who came up with a scheme to benefit a few pof them and their rulers, our rulers - the barons.
