The Day David Dukes Took Over the Republican Party
Republicans love nothing better than to shoot themselves in the foot by pissing off potential voters. Today, they took aim at the fastest growing demographic group in the country and delivered a great big Dick Cheney sized Fuck yourself! . In response to President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace Justice Souter, the people who speak for the GOP decided to follow the example of the KKK and NeoNazi Parties, which have recently targeted Hispanic-Americans in order to recruit new members. Those who have followed the anti-Hispanic debate will recognize the stereotypes. Violent. Ignorant. UnAmerican.

But, in particular, it is the debate over what to do about the nation's nearly 35 million immigrants, of whom about 11 million are in the US illegally, that has become the Klan's main recruiting tool.
"If any one single issue or trend can be credited with reenergizing the Klan, it is the debate over immigration in America," says Deborah Lauter, the ADL's civil rights director. "New groups sprouting in parts of the country that have not seen much activity."

Substantial questions also persist regarding Judge Sotomayor’s temperament and disposition to be a Supreme Court justice. Lawyers who have appeared before her have described her as a “bully” who “does not have a very good temperament” and who “abuses lawyers” with “inappropriate outbursts.”

See? Violent. That's one stereotype. And that right wing had that talking point ready even before Sotomayor was nominated.

Jay Severin, the fiery, right-wing radio talk show host on Boston’s WTKK-FM radio station, was suspended today after calling Mexican immigrants "criminaliens," “primitives,” “leeches,” and “women with mustaches and VD,” among other incendiary comments.

Amazingly, Buchanan's final shot was the widely derided and debunked Jeffrey Rosen piece in the New Republic that let anonymous sources trash Sotomayor, mostly to call her "domineering and dumb," in the words of Rebecca Traister. "She is not that intelligent," Buchanan insisted, a ridiculous assertion given her educational and professional accomplishments.

Ignorant. Check. Folks all across the south will swear to you that their schools are failing, not because they are underfunded. No, they are failing because some of the kids are named Gonzales and Lopez.

(U)ndocumented immigrants are “not here to mow your lawn – they’re here to blow up your buildings and kill your children, and you, and me.”

Rush Limbaugh isn't the only one calling Sonia Sotomayor a racist. Newt Gingrich is, too — and he's demanding that Obama's pick to the Supreme Court withdraw her nomination.

And UnAmerican, meaning they are here to fight the Battle of San Jacinto (which Santa Anna lost) again and reclaim a big chunk of the U.S. for Mexico.

Two Klansmen then set the Mexican flag on fire. One of the Klansmen stomped out the fire with his military boots and kicked the flag.

Who does the Republican Party think that it will recruit with its NeoNazi style anti-Hispanic propaganda? Southern white racists already vote Republican. I am sure that they were mighty pleased by today’s war of words. However, there was never any chance that these guys were going to cross over and vote for Obama in 2012.

No, today’s ugly spectacle was not staged in order to pander to the base. The redneck rhetoric was for the benefit of business owners who have discovered that Hispanics make great employees. They can pay them subsistence wages---and withhold even that pittance, if they feel like it. They can force them to work in unsafe conditions. If the employees complain, they can threaten them with INS.

From “Under Seige: Life for Low Income Latinos in the South”, a pamphlet put together by the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Latinos in the South – many of whom came here to escape
crushing poverty in their home countries – are encountering widespread
hostility, discrimination and exploitation.
They are routinely cheated out of their earnings and denied basic
health and safety protections. They are regularly subjected to racial
profiling and harassment by law enforcement. They are victimized
by criminals who know they are reluctant to report attacks. And
they are frequently forced to prove themselves innocent of immigration
violations, regardless of their legal status.

This treatment – which many Latinos liken to the oppressive climate
of racial subordination that blacks endured during the Jim Crow
era – is encouraged by politicians and media figures who scapegoat
immigrants and spread false propaganda. And as a result of relentless vilification in the
media, Latinos are targeted for harassment by racist extremist groups, some of which
are directly descended from the old guardians of white supremacy.

Which just goes to show that racism is never really about race. It is always about money. As in more money of the pockets of employers who need an oppressed, low income working group which they can exploit economically.

So, the next time your idiot, hot tempered Constitution bashing neighbor tells you that Hispanics are 1) dumb 2) violent or 3) here to take over our country, ask him how much Tyson is paying him. And if he says he is not getting a cent, act shocked that he would become a corporate shill for nothing, when so many lobbyists get paid so much for doing the exact same thing.

4. Whigs. Know-Nothings. Repulicans(2009)
Racism/Xenophobia, as a political party platform, seems to be more of an institution in the US than the actual "American Values" the parties are nominally striving to protect.
