SOME 40th Anniversary Inaugural Concert

Henry Mollicone’s Beatitude Mass (for the Homeless)
Performed by the Georgetown Chorale

Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 7:30 p.m. at the
Basilica of the National Shrine
400 Michigan Avenue, NE
Washington, DC 20017

On July 1, the renowned Georgetown Chorale will perform Henry Mollicone’s dramatic Beatitude Mass (for the Homeless) under the direction of the composer in commemoration of SOME’s (So Others Might Eat) four decades of service to the District’s homeless and poor. The Georgetown Chorale will be joined by members of the San Jose Symphonic Chorus for the concert, which will also include selections from Les Misérables.

Hailed by the Washington Post as “one of the most distinctive American opera composers,” Mr. Mollicone’s innovative composition and William Luce’s moving libretto are based on interviews with homeless women and men. Apprenticed under Leonard Bernstein, Mr. Mollicone’s works include The Face on the Barroom Floor, Coyote Tales: A Tone Poem, and Dansa Trimbula. A celebrated playwright, Mr. Luce’s credits include the critically-acclaimed The Belle of Amherst.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and children and may be purchased in person at SOME or on the Georgetown Chorale website, www.georgetownchorale.org.

Concert proceeds will help SOME to continue to feed, clothe and serve the most vulnerable members of our community. Learn more at www.some.org.
