A compassionate Christian engages fundies on Prop 8, and they rip him to shreds
This is the most vile thing I've seen at Rapture Ready. The good Christian is Pierre; his first post is about halfway down this page, and the insane fundies continue to grill and shred him through the end of the thread.

(In an alternate scenario, Pierre is a troll. If so, he's a damned good'un.) :D

4. Well, that covers a lot of ground
Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. You better beat it — I hear they're going to tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing. You can leave in a taxi. If you can't get a taxi, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff. You know, you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.

:hi:

5. You've left out a Hungerdunger. You left out the main one, too.
I can see you in the kitchen bending over a hot stove, and I can’t see the stove.

Go, and never darken my towels again!

7. No fair!
You quoted from two different movies and your name's only from one.

I'd horse-whip you if I had a horse.

2. He isn't quite on our side, but I recognise the pile-ons from experience
Poor Pierre couldn't even catch a break with them by agreeing that being gay is a sin. They'd really crap themselves if they met a liberal Christian. I have ocassionally made the mistake of attempting to talk sense to a fundy by approaching them as a fellow Christian and arguing from Jesus' words about social justice. It just doesn't work on the die-hard right-wingers. They don't care.

18. Doesn't it fail because we are fundamentally different?
Edited on Wed May-27-09 02:15 AM by hfojvt
Much as we both call ourselves Christian, there is a difference in that they accept the entire Bible and I do not. I think they strain at gnats while swallowing camels, but no matter how I spin it, I do reject some of the gnats. I accept John 14: 21 and reject John 14: 6. Whereas John 14: 6 is one of their favorites. They will never care as much about social justice in this world as they do about following the only way to heaven by being born again and having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. I see an asshole getting the treatment he deserves, from other assholes
He looks "good" in comparison... From what i'm reading, he's also pretty deeply conflicted. He knows the sky is blue, but his book tells him it's pink polka-dot, so he says it's pink polka dot, and tries to reconcile the two.

15. While, as a gay man, I strongly disagree with his opinion. I don't think he's an asshole.
He seems like a good person who is a bit misguided. He doesn't want to impose his views on anyone, and realizes that views like that should not be imposed on anyone. Are all his views correct? No, but at least he indicates some realization that his views might be fallible. He seems like a good Christian, who is just rather misguided into thinking the Bible is a transcripted word of God, rather than the spiritual guide that is very watermarked by bias and belief from the time during which it was written. He may come to actually realize that as well at some point. But right now, what he is doing is pretty brave... given his circumstance.

21. He actually questioned the bible being their god's transcripted word
That's what got him into the most trouble.

Literally insane, I think — not metaphorically.

The only reason they aren't under care for some form of delusional schizoid disorder is they worship one of the popular gods.

9. Poor Pierre obviously didn't know what he was getting into with those fucking lunatics.
At least it seems he's actually read his bible, instead of merely accepted his fundagelical pastor's interpretation of it. Of course that's a "bad" thing in the bizzaro Rapture Ready universe.

but I didn't see a lot of shredding. So they disagreed with him and asked questions. You have not seen worse attacks on DU? What exactly makes those people 'insane'?

12. Read the whole thread
It gets worse. For one thing, he's accused of being gay.

Yes, I've seen worse here. But, should "godly" people attack another as we lib'rul heathens do?

16. I read the last page
"Don't cop out. This is a Christian board. Our faith is proclaimed before men. Its not hidden under a basket.
Are you a Christian?
If you are why don't you believe what God has to say about homosexuality?
Are you gay? Is that why you won't condemn what God clearly calls sin?"

Is that really an accusation? Isn't it logical to think that somebody who defends Action A is also somebody who engages in Action A?

Should a DUer hold another board to higher standards than DU? Didn't you say this was the 'worst you had ever seen'? Like saying 'doodyhead' on that board is worse than calling somebody an insane racist a$$hole fu$%tard on this one.

I am not seeing it. Probably because I am an evil DUer. Otherwise I'd be posting about how scary insane those people are.

Why don't you ask that of the hundreds of "straight" DUers (and millions of "straight" people) who defend GLBT rights?

Besides me, I mean.

22. touche'
that was a palpable hit,

but I am not sure it counts.

For one thing, the majority of active DUers are people who reject The Holy Bible in favor of "Bridge to Terabithia" and who reject the Lord Jesus Christ in favor of Sir Charles Darwin or Alfred Lord Tennyson. Or so it usually seems, although there are exceptions like Pope Cheesy and Mycritters2.

You really don't think people will be more passionate about an issue if they have skin in the game? And it is somehow illogical or mean-spirited to wonder if a passionate advocate does not have skin in the game?

13. Please know that the statements made by the posters on this website do not represent my Christianity
As a Christian, I am ashamed of them. I believe that Jesus would be ashamed of them as well. I would laugh when they say that the Bible is so crystal clear on the issue if it wasn't so blasphemous of them.

Homosexuality is NOT a sin.

17. Check out the BaptistBoard and FightingFundyBoard they are just as whacko zealous
I see this happen on the BaptistBoard and FFF board as well...a person of reason and compassion is smacked down, hijack the thread, gang up on them, then accusations ...then they get banned.

These people are pathetic the Secret Service should know all about these people they are whacked and zealous and could go over the edge as Obama just out maneuvers them left and right...My God there was one thread on there where they missed George W. Bush...people have a disease and got news for them the Rapture not happening...they use that as a crutch..when they are losing.

20. I'm very aware of that distinction
That's why I used the terms "compassionate Christian" and "good Christian."

The Christians I call friends do not hate. That's one reason I call them friends.
