YUM! Brands (and you wonder about the fattening of America).
Edited on Mon May-25-09 01:27 PM by DainBramaged
A&W Restaurants
(I grew up drinking their root beer on Saturday nights and racing cars during my teen years, I am sad they are owned by these turds)

KFC/Kentucky Fried Chicken
(they are trying to 're-brand themselves' with grilled chicken, it's still fast food).

Long John Silver's
(I have never met anyone who liked their food)

Pizza Hut
(the king of cardboard, and not cheap by any sense of the imagination)

Taco Bell
(OMG the ultimate in disgustingly 'fat' food, just ASK one of the restaurants, and I use that term with
tongue in cheek, for a statement on the nutrition of their food and they tell you to contact the
main office, but no one knows where it is LOLOL).

WingStreet
(Just another way to load up with fried food on top of your pizza at Pizza Hut).

Yum! Brands recognizes that eating habits vary from society to society based on differences in local food preferences and culture. We believe a balanced diet consists of a variety of foods from the recognized food groups such as grains/rice/cereals; vegetables; dairy; meat/beans; fats; fruits; and optional calories from sweets. We will strive to proactively improve the nutrition profile of our high quality food content, while providing great taste. We always will offer a variety of menu options at each of our brands that can be part of a sensibly-balanced diet. We will educate consumers about our product nutrition and support exercise programs. We want consumers to make informed choices about their balanced diet and incorporate exercise into a healthy lifestyle.

7. Yes. There is a guy around here who bikes every where. His belly hangs so low, he
rides a girls bike and it sticks out from under his t-shirt. It's extremely gross to see him coming toward you. Most of the time (but not all the time) I see him "walking" his bike though, sitting on it and pushing with feet instead of pedaling.

Uh huh. He shouldn't even be allowed out in public. After all, he's FAT! Nobody should be forced to look at him!

don't like seeing scars, I don't like seeing people with injuries. This doesn't make me a bigot, it makes me someone who doesn't like to look at unpleasant things. I also don't like people trying to but words in my mouth. No where did I say he should not be allowed out, no where did I say anything about what he has a right to do or not do.Apparently you have a problem with your own insecurities and see everything as a perceivable slight. Oh I don't like to staring at amputees or deformities either, does that make me a bigot also?

5. And yet, free will dictates that the choice of what to eat
resides with the person making that decision.

And don't tell me that people are 'forced' in some way to eat this stuff.

And not all food prepared and cooked in the home is either healthy, wholesome, low-fat, or balanced in any way.

16. Is this recipe "healthy"?
Edited on Mon May-25-09 03:20 PM by Occulus
This is very very very tasty. But I bet it's not all that "healthy"...

Occulus' Baked Chicken Breasts and Noodles (this recipe serves three as written; plan on one breast per guest)

Prepare, at least two hours before baking, a marinade consisting of

2 c. white wine or cooking wine
2 tbsp. stone ground mustard
2 tbsp. roasted, minced garlic
2 tbsp. honey
2 tsp. white vinegar

Adjust the above to personal taste and number of guests.

Pierce each breast multiple times with a fork, immerse in marinade in a sealable container, and allow to stand, refrigerated, for at least two hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a 13"x9" baking pan, lay in

A bed of high-quality egg or wheat noodles

Remove breasts from marinade. Liberally coat each side with finely-crumbled bread crumbs (flavored, if desired). Lay each breast onto the bed of noodles, about 1" to 1 1/2" apart. Pour over the noodles

1/2 pint heavy cream
Remainder of the marinade, above
Water as needed to cover all the noodles

Bake at 350 degrees F for about half an hour, or until the noodles are done and the chicken is cooked through, with the tops of the breasts a light golden brown. Garnish as desired and serve.

9. If our children are fat
it's because of Big Sugar. Sugar by itself is a very bad food, at least in the quantities we eat. It's the fastest way to diabetes.

If we can manage to do just one thing, it should be to take sugar out of public schools.

it should be a big yet healthy meal.

My memory of school food is that it had tiny portions, was gross, and was undoubtedly hundreds of calories of fat and sugar with LOADS of salt. (Think two tiny, greasy enchiladas with iceberg lettuce and 1/3 cup of corn as a side. :puke:)

Their pizza sucks. Too goddamn greasy, particularly the pepperoni. :puke: You want good pizza, find a local place, not a fucking chain.

In Marinette County, WI, there's Biundo's just off highway 41 outside of Peshtigo. Get the Special. All the toppings except for the Pepperoni are under the thick layer of cheese. :9 Goes great with a bottle of New Glarus Spotted Cow.

In Stevens Point, WI, Bill's on Main Street is the way to go, they make the thin crust of the gods, and they deliver, too boot!

15. Don't blame them. Blame KRAFT.

I think it started back in the sixties, or maybe the seventies. So says my sister, and since she's older, I defer to the wisdom of the elders.

Back then, friday movie night was supposedly sponsored by Kraft, who fed the world amazing home recipes like: Buy a ready-made pie shell, half-fill with delicious, melted velveeta cheese spread, provide a blanket of marshmellow covering over top, then layer with frozen peas. Bake in a 325 F oven, and when it comes out piping hot, dot with jello you've melted on the stove top and embellish with ketchup. Serve with Kraft mac 'n cheese. Since those toxic foods were made at home back then, no wonder we've moved on from that to the deadly chem-laden foodstuffs we consume today. (I made up the recipe but it was described to me as kind of like that.)

19. Personally I blame them all.
It started way before the 60's. It started as soon as food production became industrialized. I've seen many cookbooks from years gone by that were basically used to market the disgusting wares of many competing food manufacturers. I used to have a few links to websites of people scanning these books and the "food" that was listed inside was beyond my most horrible imaginations.

Eat sensible portions and be active. Eats plants more than animals. Don't eat until you're full, eat until you are no longer hungry. Slow down and allow your body a moment to realize it's gotten enough food.

32. Here's the deal; Ever since both parents have been forced to work,

since it now takes both spouses to be able to live, neither the mother or the father feels like cooking. The want something that is edible, doesn't have to be so good, but at a reasonable price and they want it fast.

Unless the government tries to intervene and dictate what foods restaurants will sell, I don't see things changing. What needs to change is the parent's lack of commitment to provide balanced meals at home for the family.

35. The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going Broke
No one forced both parents to work.

That's a myth to placate our own guilt regarding our own consumerist greed.

The upshot is that two-income families often have even less income left over today than did an equivalent single-income family 30 years ago, even when they make almost twice as much. And they go deeper in debt. The authors find that it is not the free-spending young or the incapacitated elderly who are declaring bankruptcy so much as families with children. ... And Ms. Warren and Ms. Tyagi draw too fine a point here and there. There is surely some mere status-seeking in sending a child to the right day care institution and living in the right neighborhood. ... But their main thesis is undeniable. Typical families often cannot afford the high-quality education, health care and neighborhoods required to be middle class today. More clearly than anyone else, I think, Ms. Warren and Ms. Tyagi have shown how little attention the nation and our government have paid to the way Americans really live.

I'm not sure where you live, but even here in the midwest, where the living is about the cheapest you'll find in the United States, it still takes two parents to make a household tick.

It's no myth, Charlie.

44. Read the book.
In most cases, the second income costs more to earn than it contributes to the welfare of the household.

Hence, the trap.

Subtract the cost of the second car, insurance, gasoline, taxes, wardrobe or uniforms, professional or union dues, lunches, childcare, etc. and many two-income households would come out ahead if one parent stayed home and clipped coupons.

72. Until the 50s two-income families weren't unusual
My grandparents all worked outside the home (3 of them regularly, 1 sporadically), and about half the kids I went to grammar school with had both parents working. Even when a non-wealthy woman could afford to stay home, she had a lot more labor-intensive work to do in the house: shopping more frequently (refrigerators were smaller, less prepared and frozen food available), hanging up wash (household driers weren't as common), mending (what, throw something away because it has a small tear?), housekeeping, running errands (when I was growing up, utility bills were paid in person at specific locations, which for their convenience weren't open evenings and weekends) and a lot of other things that consumed time.

Fast food existed, but it was a "special treat" thing - you'd get a hot dog at the beach or fried chicken at the local church fair, but it wasn't a regular event. What we didn't have then was the constant bombardment of ads for corporate fast foods.

65. 'Luv that chicken from Popeyes!' :)
Great stuff. I yearned for it when we lived overseas, and we've been back about 10 months and I still haven't had Popeyes. I'm gonna have to fix that this weekend...

40. What did they do, besides owning a bunch of shitty food places?
What are you "reporting" here? That this company exists?

48. Vote with your dollars
If you don't think the food is healthy and want healthier options, don't buy it.

50. Pizza Hut is just ok
Dominos is the one that tastes like cardboard to me. Papa Johns the best of the three, by far. I agree with another poster that local pizza places do it better.

51. Haven't had fast food in years
and don't miss it a bit.

When you stop eating it and then try it again, it just tastes like salty, over processed crap.

52. People decide what they eat
Restaurants are there to make money, they certainly don't force people to over-indulge on their food. It's up to individuals to eat healthy.

70. I actually like Taco Bell as a guilty pleasure every now and again.
Same with Pizza Hut.

I probably eat that sort of food once a month if that, so I consider it a treat.
